Muralitharan's dominance as a bowler, far exceeds Tendulkar's dominance as a batsman
Muralitharan holds MORE records for a bowler than SRT as a batter and has been a lion hearted match winner for Lanka for a long long time. Be it tests of ODIS. Wisden rated NO.1.
A 5W test hall is equivalent to test 100. Murali has a staggering 66, 5W halls !!! Yet, the hype the hoopla and publicity that SRT holds purely because of his personal records is a million times than Murali. Why ? Our mammoth population, media, SRT's big sponsors etc etc.. For me, Muralithran is the greatest cricketer from South Asia. The next 4, in no particular order are, Sachin, Imran and Kapil and Sunny. Reply•Quote |

Re: Muralitharan's dominance as a bowler, far exceeds Tendulkar's dominance as a batsman
PI, 44 of those 66 Five-wicket hauls came at home in ideal spinning conditions for Murali. While Tendulkar has scored only 21 of his 47 centuries at home. I mention this because you have based your argument on comparison of 5W hauls and centuries of these two legends respectively. _______________________ India's Test record against Australia over last 12 years: Played 26, Won 10, Lost 10, Drawn 6 Reply•Quote |

Re: Muralitharan's dominance as a bowler, far exceeds Tendulkar's dominance as a batsman
Quote: Thats because he has played a disproportionate number of games at home. Not his fault. Sri Lanka is not big commercially and don't get called often, even then for 2 test series. Even his numbers AWAY are better than Kumble's numbers at HOME. Doesn't that say something about the greatness of the man ? Reply•Quote |

Quote: Yeah just like critics label Sachin as a big match CHOKER, critics label Murali as a chucker. Both take the sheen away. But let us look at sheer numbers and performance. Murali is the greatest ever subcontinental cricketer. Reply•Quote |

Re: Muralitharan's dominance as a bowler, far exceeds Tendulkar's dominance as a batsman
Quote: Agreed. But still the disparity between Murali's home and away stats is very high. He averages less than 20 runs per wicket at home, and nearly 28 runs per wicket overseas. So in effect he is a great bowler at home, and only a very good bowler overseas. Tendulkar on the other hand, averages 55 with the bat both home and away. _______________________ India's Test record against Australia over last 12 years: Played 26, Won 10, Lost 10, Drawn 6 Edited 3 time(s). In India its always batting that gets the glory.
As a kid, I always recall us thinking of bowling as a punishment and batting as a treat. Thats just how life is....and no one said life is fair. MuMu will never be SRT. Reply•Quote |

It's also because at the heart of it, cricket is a batsman's game (as opposed to baseball which is a pitcher's game). ------------------------------------------------------- Off break, doosra, yorker, googly, straight drive, sweep, square cut, late cut ... I love them all. Reply•Quote |
