Hazare Trophy is the Ranji Trophy equivalent for 50 over games.

and ganguly leads them to a win.....his own batting has been moderate...but his desire and hunger still not satiated...bowling his quota of 10 overs.....and leadership to win even minus their star Dinda who is on india duty.

watch out for LR shukla...he has hit a purple patch with the bat

in my view he shouldnt even be playing any cricket at his age. he is blocking a youngster.

nothing to prove for him. he doesnt need money either. he should concentrate on other roles like administration/coaching/academy etc

Love of the game...competitive spirit....he is still good to hold his place in bengal side....
and I would say he had even two more years of international cricket in him, when he was forced retired

i agree ganguly was good enuf to play 2 more years when force retired. on same token dravid also has another 1 year more cricket. its just one series (aus) he failed

the idea is you are blocking a youngster's place. dravid has categorically mentioned he wont play for k'taka as it would block one slot

Dravid is defnitely good to play FC for several more years and hold a place on merit.

blocking a slot......is a personal concept.....I beleive slots should be earned.

the only recent examples of blockign a slot that I have seen was Harbhajan for a long, long time...not holding a place on merit.
nor Raina recently

Blocking a slot was definitely an issue, for the simple reason a young player is never given a long run.

Imagine a guy like Ganguly or Dravid not being given a run after their successful English tour of 96.(They didn't exactly set the world on fire after that for a couple of years).

Again, it's not just batting alone. It also lies in the field. Dravid's 20 or so dropped catches in the last 20 games should play a factor.

If it is purely based on merit, then when Dravid endured a fallow run in the period 07-09, he should have been dropped right then.

Yet it doesn't seem to work that way: "he's earned his place, so he gets a long rope...." seems to be the refrain

I don't think it works both ways: merit won't count when giving a long rope to a senior, yet it should when it comes to dropping them?

24 needed with a bunny coming in at 11? No problem!

"merit won't count when giving a long rope to a senior"

It's merit+ credit balance he has earned in the bank that counts.

else you will be having a new squad of 15 for every series

Ganguly and Dravid are two different beasts...

Ganguly playing even when nearly 40 is very beneficial to the team...he is an inspirational leader, and can motivate, and push youngsters...he also has a great eye for talent...

Dravid would basically be blocking a spot...of course he would be inspirational in the dressing room...and could impart a thing or two about batting...but that does not outweigh him blocking some deserving youngster...

A similar comparison could be made between Warne and McGrath...

I'd take a 45 year old Warne over a 40 year old McGrath anyday...

Even for a Ganguly worshipper, that is stretching things a bit. Anyways, even if any of it is actual fact, he should sit in the dressing room and "inspire" and "motivate" and "look out for talent with his keen eye" (LOL at that last one). Not take up a spot of a youngster that could use the exposure.

Inspiring leadership is such a huge part of a winning team. even at age approaching 40, Ganguly proves that.

captaincy in cricket is huge compared to other sports. american sports dont have captains but the coach role is huge.

lermy jones (spelling ??) made debut as nz captain at age of 42. he cant bat , bowl.

there was another player from england. mike brearly. best captain ever. for english. cant bat, bowl

ganguly is good enugh to get 40+ avg , better than raina/rohit/yuvvy in that position.

he could get 15+ more average from sehwag, sachin, dravid, laxman (combined)

It was Laxmi Ratan Shukla's hundred that actually won the Final for Bengal. Ganguly only made 30 odd runs. He should take over as coach of Indian team in the near future.

India - World Cup winners 2011!!!
Champions Trophy winners 2013!!!
Congrats to Indian team and all Indian fans!
