Re: Michael Clarke joins IPL
Is he the same guy who urged his boys to stay away from IPL
see below:

Oh my....what a sly double faced guy........sold his soul for 30 pieces of silver, to dance to the tunes of IPL....
but worse for his boys who might have taken his word literally and stayed away from IP

[blogs.bettor.com]

Michael Clarke, has advised his boys to stay away from the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) and focus on their physical fitness so that they can shoulder their national duties better.

The captain admits that the IPL gives immense revenue to cricketers along with opportunity to make choices, but he considers this to be unfair and unethical in a sense that the foremost duty of a player is to play for the nation which he belongs to and which gives him a chance to earn fame.

Clarke is of the view that there is abundance of international cricket all around for the Aussies so they do not need to bother about the league by putting their bodies at risk.

money talks. lara was ready to play IPL 4 years after his retirement. ponting would be ready if any team takes him. ofcourse he will get less money than manoj tiwary or parthiv patel

Re: Michael Clarke joins IPL
Hmm... Australian test side goes into an extended break after the West Indies and Clarke starts playing 20/20 again. Coincidentally (or not) just before the T20 World Cup.

He's an awful 20/20 player. Not good enough for Australia/ NSW/ Sydney Thunder, but (maybe) thinks he can make the World Cup side...

Anyway, hope he has fun and the IPL side that signed him didn't pay too much.

County cricket is proper first class cricket. Would be terrific for Australian junior cricketers if they could play county cricket. From memory, no centrally contracted Australian players has played county cricket, and has been a long time since our younger players have played.

Clarke will only be available for a few games. He's not going to be making much money. Ponting's incredibly unlikely to play next IPL. He still thinks he's one of the best six test batsmen in Australia and he'll be doing all he can to stay in form in the longer formats of the game. County cricket in the English summer maybe.

yeah - so first class cricket is proper cricket, yet most of ausie stars want to play in T20 - Huge gap in thinking. Believe it or not - reason is that it's discards who play in county cricket. All stars play in T20 and why not? I was only exposing treble standard of Clarke who preaches others not to play in IPL however they can play in counties and then himslef signs up to play in there. Either, CA has stopped paying him or he has become greedy all of sudden smiling smiley

after his comments on records ....by accepting IPL Clarke has further re-iterated the inherent hypocricy that Austrlains generally exude

Bad decision by Pune to take Clarke..he is definitely not a T20 player..I do not even count him a good ODI player..

Useless pick...will be a burden..

I think Pune are going crazy ovee missing auction and UV, and hence picking whosoever comes their way, w/o thinking..

How much are they paying him?

Hope Ganguly keeps him strictly in line. And, hopefully, teaches him some manners.

Re: Michael Clarke joins IPL
In turn, maybe Clarke could teach him how to bat. Seriously, though, hopefully Clarke stays far far away from most Indian players. Too good a player to get messed into this silly street cricket of a league. Might spoil him.

Re: Michael Clarke joins IPL
now ponting joins the bandwagon. he demands aussie board consider IPL in their schedule and appricates nz, rsa boards for doing this

but it would be an insult to this once great batsman to earn less than manoj tiwary, venu gopal rao or even munaf patel

Yes, first class cricket is proper cricket.

Did you read my mail you were responding you?

Do you even understand cricket? And, I repeat first class cricket is proper cricket. Something which the IPL isn't.

Aiden Blizzard, Bollinger, Cameron White, Hodge, Shaun Marsh, Ferguson, Nannes, etc + Australian cricket retirees are not the "stars" of Australian cricket. They are the discards.

Re: Michael Clarke joins IPL
every cricketer must play FC cricket before trying out T20. Fundamentals are always important. you still need to gauge the line and length, movement, bounce ... even in T20.

Yeah, that's true. But the most important skill, in my opinion, for an 20/20 player (or I should say 20/20 batsman as bowlers are an irrelevance in 20/20) is hitting across the line, getting under the ball, and putting the ball into the stand anywhere between midwicket and mid on.

You don't need much technical ability to be able to do that. Also, players who do have some technique, can become overly reliant on that form of scoring runs, Yuvraj for example.

Not only does he play...he is captaining his side to the top of the table...

The bottom of the table have teams led by Gilchrist, Vettori and Sangakkara... btw...
