India v. Australia 3rd Test, Ranchi

Once again cricinfo is hyperventilating about the pitch... saying it will be slow and low... instead of one with turn and bounce... because India are afraid of Lyon...

Lyon is in a bad way.. his spinning finger is raw and hurting...this was the norm for guys like Lance Gibbs...who gave it a massive rip... Ashwin is more subtle and has many more variations so his fingers are not as worn...though he has bowled a lot this season...

If Pat Cummins is picked instead of Jason Bird... the Aussie selectors must be questioned... why did they not pick Cummins in the first place? Was Bird simply a drinks waiter/net bowler?

Looks like Vijay will be back. Hope he is fully fit and can give India a better start than the hapless Mukund...

for both sides this is a chance to make the series safe (can't lose the series if they win this match)... India still have to win in Dharamshala if they want the B-G trophy back...as currently it is with Australia and a drawn series will not suffice.

Smith says that Kohli's claim that Aussies routinely use Dressing room to review DRS is rubbish...

Well let's see how the Aussies do with DRS review in Ranchi... they will be under the microscope now having been caught RED HANDED in Bengaluru...smiling smiley

So far no DRS issues on either side...

But the absence of Kohli as captain out in the middle was palpable... Australia wiggled out of tight spot after Kohli left and Smith and Maxwell, who I said could supply the X-factor that Aussies are missing after the absence of Mitchell Starc. played the patience game and slowly built the advantage..

This pitch is like the pitches against England... has a bit in it for all... but overall a true cricket wicket... subcontinental style...

the outfield is hard as a rock, green, and lightening quick...

Predictably without dressing room help Australia exhaust their two DRS appeals... not so easy without off field help is it Smithy?

Once more Vijay has a brain fade and fails to convert a half century into a big one... But at 193/2 India are in pretty decent shape...

Kohli falls again to the ball moving away outside off stump... he has a HUGE weakness there..

Yeah.

I wonder how other teams failed to exploit this weakness this season.

This is a classy innings by Pujara. Did not offer a single chance.
Partnership with Saha is going to be crucial.
