Ravi Shastri Surprised That Wicket Was WET on 4th Morning

CRAPINFO as usual is silent on this...but Sportstar the Indian sports magazine has an article that says that Ravi Shastri the Indian coach was shocked to see how WET the pitch at Johannesburg was on the 4th morning. The SAffies then applied the heavy roller to bind the cracks...and the pitch totally eased up at least until the sun did its job and burnt the moisture away a bit after lunch... that's when India were able to then wrap up the innings with 7 wickets for 53 runs...

Apparently it has rained every night of the Test, but until the fourth morning the covers on the pitch never let any moisture get through... but suddenly on the fourth morning the covers seemed to have not been secure enough allowing significant moisture to get through...

If what Shastri alleges is true, and there is no reason to doubt him, then the BCCI needs to take this up with the ICC...and sanction the venue and even the SA cricket board if they were in on the cheating...

That is downright cheating! And I am stunned by silence in this regard.

We are our own worst enemy... can you imagine the furor in the Aussie, English or even Saffie press if something similar had happened to their teams in India?

I now think the moisture was not so much to GET India but to prevent Johannesburg from being BANNED as a cricket ground for a year...

If the pitch had continued to get dryer... I think SA would have either been dismissed for 50 odd or the match would have been abandoned....

Very much possible. After all, groundsmen can impact ground conditions mostly and they may have panicked.
