Team for Edgbaston

So does Hildreth come straight back in?
Can't see any other changes as likely.

I would be very surpised if not. Langer seems to be a huge fan of his, praising him to the rafters at every opportunity.

Whilst there's ZERO chance of this actually happening, I would be slightly tempted to consider picking both of our young wrist-spinners on a pitch that will probably take turn. There's almost never anything in this pitch for a seamer* and Munday for Caddy would not make either the batting or the fielding that much worse.

* It can swing, given the right overhead conditions, but that's not about the pitch itself and we have two swing bowlers in the side, anyway, in the form of Charl and Pete so should be covered on that score.

James looked back to normal on Sunday so it seems he's over it now. But Wes did make 50.........

Don't think Munday is in any present plans AG

The sentimentalist in me would like to have them both in, but with Langer and de Bruyn having made 70s in the first knock, when it arguably counts more, it seems a straight choice between Wes and James.

No, Grockle, I don't believe he's in the plans either, was just dreaming really...

And there is one thing being picked they have also got to be used!

So, Warks potentially two batsmen down. Could be an opportunity for us..

Yes because they'll be up for it after their win and we need to win everything in the CC.

Long term prospects for Mike Munday with Max Waller's development and Arul Suppiah's establishment with bat and ball?

I see Battyi s leaving Worcs. Would any of you guys him as a spinning all rounder next year? Possibly its quick bowlers we need and it would stop Max's development?

Just a thought.

Warwickshire will now be without their two leading batsmen - Ian Bell with 647 runs to date, and Jonathan Trott (831), who has been called into the England squad for the fourth Test at Headingley as cover for Freddie Flintoff.

They had named the same 11 that beat Worcestershire at New Road in the last round of matches, but will now have to add another batsman to:

Westwood, Carter, Troughton, Frost, Ambrose, Clarke, Botha, Woakes, Tahir and Rankin.

Tahir, a right-arm quickie, had been due to be released at the end of the season and had already attracted interest from Kent. But I see he has been among the wickets recently, so may be in line for a new contract. If not, perhaps we could take a look at him.

Whatever happened to brotherly love? Surely we employed his brother, Jeremy Batty, for a while in the middle of the 1990s.

Warks batting line-up could be vulnerable. Frost had an Annus Mir (no I can't do Latin so don't now how to spell it) but it means 'miraculous,' last year in Div Two but has found life much tougher after the step up. Troughton has sometimes been a thorn in our posterior, though.

I heard we once employed his mother,Nora,
as a tea lady back in the 80's also.
I still wouldn't touch him with a barge pole,he wouldn't improve the team at all.

The Somerset squad.

Trescothick, Suppiah, Langer, Hildreth, de Bruyn, Kieswetter, Trego, Thomas, Caddick, Waller, Willoughby, Durston and Phillips.

Apparently Hildreth has recovered from his illness, Somerset web site says chest infection (that is what I heard he had at the ground) or the BBC says stomach bug, what ever he had he is over it.

Pick your team.

For the first time this season, it is difficult not to view our next match, at Edgbaston tomorrow, as belonging to the clichéd `must win` variety,

Durham are not playing in this series of matches - so we don`t want any of the rain which threatens to hang around in Birmingham tomorrow, ahead of good forecasts for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

But more significant, looking at the remaining fixtures for both Durham and ourselves, we need in reality to be 23 points ahead, and uncatchable, going into the last week of the season. We are the only First Division county without a match in the last round in September, whereas Durham are away to Worcestershire.

As the New Road boys will almost certainly be relegated by then, Durham will surely be nailed on for maximum points - if it doesn`t snow of course.

I'm sure a few of us could make the trip to Worcester armed with some hosepipes and shovels if needed.
Wouldn't take long to flood that gaff.
That'd learn them.
