I've just read, sadly, of the death of Eddie Lawrence, a great servant of cricket and of Somerset cricket in particular.

BJ and I were privileged to spend a spell-binding hour or so in his company at the museum last summer, listening to an avalanche of anecdotes delivered with great warmth and benignity. He was a good man and will be much missed by all who love the history of our great club.

Edited to add the link to the SCCC site:

Very sad news,very sad.
The work they have done in the museum is quite outstanding,it deserves better recognition by the club and fans alike.
Like LoL,when I hear the rattle of the stumps, all my cricket memorabilia will be left to this marvellous place.
Please, please support it,if only the once.
Eddie and a few others worked their socks off to make this place to finest shrine to SCCC on the planet.
May he rest in peace.

I am very sorry to hear this news. I too met Eddie Lawrence last year - he was an absolute gentleman and a fund of warm memories about Somerset cricket and cricketers.

Sorry, Wickham, of course you too were part of those lovely conversations we had with Mr Lawrence last summer. I remember we noted at the time how fortunate we had been to have the chance to spend time in his company; the trouble is I did not remember precisely who "we" were. Time for the tablets.
