Have just eliminated India in the Under 19-World Cup.

The BCCI's men were the reigning World Champions.

And they gave NZ a smacking before that but ominously lost to SL

Play Pakistan in the semis, I believe.

Some guy called Dooran, I think it is, came in at 5 and hit 143 vs the Aussies out of a team total of only 204.

Sadly, it looks as though the 204 will prove inadequate.

The name you are looking for (and you didn't look very hard!) is Nicolas Pooran [www.espncricinfo.com], who is not to be confused with Australia's Jake Doran [www.espncricinfo.com].

1-1 off 3; I've known better starts sad smiley

204/7 off 50 overs doesn't sound like enough...

No, though it's a good recovery from where they were, and there have been some low-scoring games during the tournament.

... and we await a weather forecast from our usually reliable source.

Damien Martyn says it gives England a fighting chance.

The Pakistan innings has started Matthew Fisher (looks very useful) has begun with a maiden.

Pakistan have a good front end with the openers sporting averages of Aslam (53) and Amam (84)

Jake Winslade is the other opening bowler.

Sayer has Aslam plum in front 41 for 1 after 7.5 with no score off the first 12 balls

I would usually bet against a Pakistani team in a run chase about 90% of the time. Certainly, it's been a long time since I'd put any money on their senior team chasing down a score.

It's been a lifetime since I spoiled my enjoyment of God's greatest game by betting any money on any of it.

Fisher seem the perfect bowler for the ECB to destroy. Tall, rangy, smooth action, good length and seems to be having a ball.

He's smiling so he's obviously doing something wrong.

Re: England Under 19s

50 for 1 at the end of the 12th with Amam Ul Haq struggling with a leg injury and some tight bowling from the English but looking at the slow men they have I doubt they have enough runs for this Pakistani line up.

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 24 February, 2014 12:39
57 for 2 as skipper Rhodes fools Raza with a slow one. Simple catch.

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 24 February, 2014 12:42
Leg spinner Jones has Al Haq 57 for 3. Plumb in front. Good ball but the young man has been seizing up and did well to even play.

I know some think me a fuddy-duddy, but the two out of the three dismissals I have seen have been celebrated by the bowlers with ravenous, foaming-at-the-mouth aggression. I want to see a will to win, but I think these boys need to be told that they are not footballers!

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 24 February, 2014 12:46
Ghulam now flat bats one straight to the fielder and it is 57 for 4 as Jones takes two in an over.

(Looking at the first he got considerable turn. So much in fact that he would have turned it past the leg stump - looked out for anyone's money in real time).

Re: England Under 19s

To be fair though FE, none of it is directed at the batsmen.

They just seem determined to me. It's a small total and there is no crowd atmosphere at all. I don't think there is a crowd.

Imam was far from plum Grockle, probably 3 inches down the leg-side but not complaining.

Re: England Under 19s
Frome Exile 24 February, 2014 12:53
That's a fair point, Grockle. I'm watching with the sound down, so could only go on how it looked, rather than what was said: but it didn't look good!

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 24 February, 2014 13:03
The comment in brackets above clarifies what looked good in real time and wasn't as good on review.

The Pakistani commentator is praising the English spirit and commitment. It seems he likes Rob Jones "Celebrating with Passion"

Dear FE: I like fuddy fuddies (but am not confirming whether I think you actually are one).

Perhaps those eager young bowlers need a term or two at Humility School, along with Owen Farrell.
