He's passionately flinging a steady supply of full tosses now. Karma?

Isn't that one of the things Farrell is supposed to do?

And Rhodes has just yelled "Spawny f***er" at the batsman who has hit him over the top.
Not necessary, or seemly.

Re: England Under 19s
Frome Exile 24 February, 2014 13:54
And now one of the Umpires has had to step in to calm down an altercation between Jones and an incoming batsman. And he's then spent the interval between overs telling the England skipper to calm his players down.

And again!!

Not good enough, England.

Being passionate is fine going over the top is not.

India Under-19 captain Vijay Zol has received a one-match ban after being found guilty of using offensive language during his side’s ICC Under-19 World Cup quarter-final defeat to England.

Off-spinner Aamir Gani was also found guilty of using obscene language when he dismissed Ed Barnard during the 26th over of England’s successful run chase and was reprimanded.

Sounds like they need decorum lessons from that nice Mr Batty.

Seriously, such behaviour needs to be dealt with instantly, with players being given serious warning by their own management or even being dropped from the side.

Yep Rob Jones well over the top (Lancashire lad you see :-). The event seems to have got to him unfortunately. Of course that tars the performance and commitment of the rest of the side unfortunately.

Good game though, down to the wire. Still not sure that they have enough runs but they are doing a great job oof defending it.

Excellent figures by Fisher in his 10.

Not just Jones though, Grock.
Fisher was snarling away, too.

Bad over from Winslade. 10 from it but still nip and tuck. The boys in green do look confident though

Great over from the skipper. Looks a real prospect.

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 24 February, 2014 14:53
Winslade drops the big hitter on the boundary, parrying it for 6. Should have got it but wasn't sure where the rope was - should have been. 14 off 14. That may be the decider I'm afraid.

Well played Gohar and Butt = 50 partnership off 66 balls. Have put their side in the final bar a miracle I think.

Indeed. Pakistan's to lose now, it would appear.

Re: England Under 19s

True but a great tournament for the English boys and as you say some real talent here. Winslade to bowl so it will be ball one I would assume.

No tears to be shed over the defeat but lessons about the spirit of cricket to be learned.

Are you apoplectic yet, FE the FD?

I hope they will reflect on whether calmer behaviour might reap greater rewards in future.
But apoplectic? No.

I didn't think you would be, despite the execrable behaviour.

Tim Boon, I think (U19 coach)

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 25 February, 2014 03:09
Yep.... might be overplaying the histrionics gentlemen.

One out of place comment picked up and dealt with by the umpire was about it really. Other than that they seem to have dealt with the disappointment in a pretty professional and sportsmanlike way.

The pressure did get to them in the field a little at the end though. Jack Winstanley may probably hope to forget the last 5 overs I think

Yes. They were so bad Jack Winstanley may have to change his name.

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 25 February, 2014 11:56
I have to say I watched most of the game FE and I saw Fisher do nothing but smile. Don't remember him even making eye contact with a Pakistani.

As I posted above - the commentators were all talking about the commitment and motivation of the English boys - they were mostly Aussies and Pakistani commentators admitedly. They certainly weren't sledging the players constantly or pointing to the dressing rooms while running towards them or anything like that.

So their senior colleagues could probably learn a few things rather than adminishing them.

That is extremely reassuring, Grockle. Maybe the world is not going to end in totally devastating conflagration next Monday after all.

I note that the SA vs Aus series seems to have been played in far better spirit than the pathetic and juvenile displays that we saw from our lot and the Aussies on the tour Down Under.

Whether that's because somebody, somewhere has had a word, I don't know, but it might also be a welcome sign of less of this sort of nonsense.

(This sort of nonsense being why I have mentioned this on this thread).

Re: England Under 19s
Grockle 25 February, 2014 12:54
Yes it certainly looked like both sides there were more interested in cricket than scoring points. Made a nice change from OZ

Re: England Under 19s
Frome Exile 25 February, 2014 16:10
I watched the entire innings, Grockle, and had the commentary up from shortly after my initial post about ill-tempered wicket celebrations. So I too heard the commentators initially applaud Jones' passion, but then get steadily more and more critical less and less supportive of his behaviour after the Umpire had stepped in.

As regards Fisher, though, I may well have misidentified him, in which case I apologise. (Certainly he wasn't the one guilty of over-exuberant celebration of the first wicket). But in my opinion the issue was significantly more than one comment from one player.

On a related matter, hats off to Philippe Saint-Andre for dropping Picamoles, after the latter had mockingly applauded the referee when he was sent to the sin-bin. I do not wish to pass judgement on the behaviours of the England U19 players (because I did not see enough to be able to offer an informed judgement). But cricket could learn from Saint-Andre's willingness to take a public stance on the standards of behaviour which are acceptable.
