Thanks for that clarification LOL. Maybe Mick was taking the Mick.

Again, this is for the other games. There is a thread for the Durham Somerset match.

Ton up for Ballance yesterday, so strong start to the season for him in pursuit of an England place. Yorks may be without both him and Root for most of the season.

5 wickets for Woakes in front of Peter Moores.

As I recall, last time Moores was coach he was generally more willing than Duncan Fletcher had been to consider bowlers of lesser pace.

In looking around at their pace bowling options then, if Finn is not back to 100 percent then England might decide to go with Jimmy and Broad and then to tie-break the other positions based on batting, meaning places for both of Stokes and Woakes?

Being as it's early season and it's Sri Lanka, and seeing as any new coach will want to start with a win, I wouldn't be surprised to see Moores double up on swing options, with Anderson and Onions, plus Broad and Stokes, so Woakes might have to hope for no spinner.

But this isn't really a CC1 Round Three discussion.

AGod 21 April, 2014 10:26
Frankly, with England in such a mess the early season part of the CC will inevitably be seen through the prism of which putative England players are or are not performing well.

And, yesterday, Ballance and Woakes put numbers on the board.

There weren't any other CC1 games yesterday apart from the ours and ones that those two guys played in.

It wasn't a criticism. Of course players' performances will be viewed through your prism.

The bit about Moores' versus Fletcher's selectorial preferences might be best dicussed on a specific "England Future - which way now?" thread though?

Indeed.

Re: CC1 Round 3
AGod 21 April, 2014 12:31
Ballance has moved on to 173 out of 396 so far....

Re: CC1 Round 3
AGod 21 April, 2014 14:38
Northants now staring down the barrel at Headingley. Already 3 down for about 20 in response to 400+.

Start delayed everywhere, except Canterbury and Leeds (where Williamson and Rashid are bowling, so light must be dodgy).

Re: CC1 Round 3
AGod 22 April, 2014 12:17
I know it's not CC1 but I could not be bothered to start a CC2 thread... just to say that in that one operative game at the St Lawrence Ground, it seems that Leics are making a rather better start to this season than one might have expected, after what happened to them last season.

Re: CC1 Round 3
AGod 23 April, 2014 14:43
Jos is batting at six for Lancs and doing his best to help Paul Horton keep Warks at bay. Currently 35 not out.

Anybody remember that fellow called Cook, who had a rather wretched winter. He's already scored 460 FC runs this season and it's only 23rd April (and he's not out at The Oval).

Unfortunately for Jos, he fell to the part time bowling of Javid, shortly after Horton was out and Lancs have pretty much folded from there. Warwickshire should be expected to win that game today.

Northants were heavily beaten earlier on today.

As for Cook, I guess Jade Dernbach isn't quite Mitchell Johnson, who knew..........?

Andrew Gale has dropped himself for Yorkshire vs Middx.

Root captain, and batting in the middle order.

Possibly he has been told he won't be opening with Cook in the tests, and his future lies further down the order.

Not a great start for Captain Root - a five-ball duck.

Poor effort compared to Paul Horton's 22-ball duck for Lancashire

Re: CC1 Round 4
AGod 27 April, 2014 13:42
Scorecard implies that batting is all but impossible at Wantage Road.

Coming in at 20 or so for 4 from about 20 overs gives Jos a chance to impress.

He did out for 1.

Re: CC1 Round 4
chunkyinargyll 27 April, 2014 14:25
Northants are not last years Derbyshire.

They are a bit better than that.

On the basis that two 'good' teams always have a poorer season than anticipated, it is entirely possible they can avoid relegation.

Re: CC1 Round 4
AGod 27 April, 2014 14:28
5, 6 and 7 down in the division today.

If we ever get on could be a HUGE toss for Banger to win, especially with tomorrow forecast to be dry and bright.

Re: CC1 Round 4
Mike TA1 27 April, 2014 15:01
Lancs 86 for 9

Only two reached double figures so far, not counting extras.

Re: CC1 Round 4
AGod 27 April, 2014 15:06
I suspect that game might be all over by the close tomorrow, with one of the teams moving ahead of us unless, of course, our match proceeds at a similar rate of knots (and we win it).

Top scorer for Lancashire: J M Anderson, the man who, according to VJM, bats like Gower.
