Jimmy Anderson returns to the Lancashire squad against Somerset at Old Trafford tomorrow, after being rested at the request of the England management for the last match against Surrey.

Lancashire will, however, be without Stephen Croft, who has a thumb injury and will be replaced as captain by Liam Livingstone. They have gone 13 championship matches without a victory, dating back to last May.

I liked your headline, but not the message, cjm. First the best England batsman of the last ten years, now the best England bowler.

If we are serious about contending for the elusive County Championship Trophy we need to be the best and it shouldn't matter which Individuals are playing for our opposition. Bring em on I say!!

Croft not much of a loss. If Jimmy is on top form then we may have double cause to regret the irresponsible batting performance vs Essex.

OT used to be a great track, full of pace, bounce and spin but, since they foolishly rotated the square (all because the odd game was held up by direct sunlight) then that seems to have been lost and most pitches seem to be puddiings now, and it will be a shame if this game is played on a useless pudding.

I shall be looking for some runs from Mr Elgar, in particular, as he has now played four (I think) CC games as our overseas pro and barely made it past 30-odd yet.

I imagine that TG will rotate into the starting line-up. If it's a complete pudding then logic may see JO missing out. But it's possible that they'll look at workload from game one, in which case JO would play and one of LG or CO would take a breather.

No point in regretting Essex again, Essex is done. You are quite right Mr Date. If you can't beat the sides in front of you then you aren't good enough to be champions and it is as simple as that.

That is, of course, true, Mr Date.

I'd still have better fancied England's chances against the 1948 Australians had either Bradman or Lindwall not been playing!

I'll be there from ball 1.
Can see no need for 2 spinners as a rule up north in mid april so without seeing the pitch id assume josh & a spinner misses out from the 13 & we bowl 1st.
Tomorrow looks best bowling of the first 3 days too, bring it on.....

I can't believe we are discussing this drawn out boring game over four days.

Roll on July 9 for The Hoval showdown.

Guns at dawn winner takes all!

Bring it on!

I think Josh deserves a go.

Cloudy skies at Old Trafford, apparently. Looking at the scores in the two early-season Championship matches at OT last year, exercising the option to bowl first might be a sound move.

Bit before my time if I'm honest.

Interesting to see Josh Davey get a start.

Cloud cover- ball nipping around- Might be his day(vee)

No Chanderpaul, which has to be good news as he always seems to have it in for Somerset one way or another.

Jamie Overton injured in warm up?

We need Lancs four down by lunch IMO to get in the box seat.

Saturday looks the best day for batting.

And it continues.

Josh has always seemed to bowl well preseason, been named in early season squads then left out of the starting xi. I was pleased he'd made the team even before he took these early wickets.

Lancs 39-5 - two for Josh, three for Craig.

I've just woken up from a dream in which Somerset took five wickets in seventy minutes. Quite ridiculous the tricks that the subconscious mind takes. Time to go back to sleep.

Not a bad start this.
All 4 seamers have looked superb. Giving them nothing just like essex first innings, excellent discipline.

Cloudy skies but odd brightness peaking through so perfect day so far.

My first visit to Old Trafford and most enjoyable thus far.....

This is foot on neck time and keep them under 3 figures.

One of Tom's choice for early doors at the end of this season.
That recommends him on its own.
He takes wickets when he plays...nearly always has.

Now batsmen..... we'd like you all to show up now please. Excellent from Craig. Well done Josh and Timmy G tight as a duck's posterior. Way to go bowling unit.
