I have just looked at the BBC Cricket Section and it clearly states that this season (2017) Two relegated from Division 1 to Division 2 and One promoted from 2 to 1.That would leave 7 in Division 1 and 11 in Division 2!! Clearly some numpty has copied last years tables info and assumed the same for this year!

Cricket's bosses have reversed a decision which effectively handed control of the sport to India, England and Australia.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) decided in 2014 that the 'Big Three' should have more powers over how the game is run and its financial split. [www.bbc.co.uk]

Even though the original decision has been reversed you can still guess who voted against the new deal.

I've mentioned earlier that Durham have three players this season whose fathers all played Test cricket for South Africa. In recent matches these three men, Cook, Jennings and Richardson, have been the first three in the order (they were the top scorers today). Whether any other side's first three batsmen have all been the sons of Test players I do not know, but I think it highly improbable that the fathers would have played for a country in which the side their sons played for is not based.

Prove me wrong, someone.

Hurrah!

I've just noticed Mike's post and what marvellous news (news which had passed me by).

In your face, loathsome and worthless ECB, unspeakable BCCI.

Hilariously it looks as though the BCCI may take their ball home and refuse to take part in any ICC tournaments. They have failed to register a squad for the Champions Trophy.

Now here's a novelty.

English international and domestic cricket will be shown live on BBC TV for the first time in 21 years from 2020.
In a five-year deal with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECcool smiley, more than 100 hours of cricket will be broadcast each summer.

This new TV deal looks like the ECB putting another nail in the coffin of county cricket to me.

I'd love to see if there is any correlation between the fall of participation rates of children between the age of let's say 9 and 15 in the UK and the removal of free to air cricket on TV courtesy of our old compadre Giles Clarke of blessed memory.

The ECB will now laud this as a new innovation to help improve the participation rates probably decreased because they sold cricket's soul to the satellite broadcasters and took it away from an audience who could not afford the rates.

What a star Giles was.

And look what the ECB plans to pump into people's homes now - T20..

What, oh what, could the ECB's motivation be in particularly wanting to promote T20?.. on a postcard to the man from Morrisons (or wherever they dug him up from)

Maybe I am desperately out of touch, but I played and watched cricket throughout my childhood but did not live in a house with a television until I was thirty-three. I might even venture that not having cricket to watch indoors, I was all the more interested in it out of doors.

You are desperately out of touch I'm afraid. Even with the youth of Oman nothing exists unless it is on TV because unless it is on TV it is not on social media and therefore they never hear of it.

They don't know what 'outside' is because when they are 'outside' they are only looking at the screen of their Smartphone most of the time anyway.

Pembroke County cricket clubs Carew and Cresselly have fallen out over an early declaration that decided the Division One title. [www.bbc.co.uk]

Now that does sound familiar. The declaration I mean.

I saw that - would've posted it, but wasn't sure how, and I knew somebody would. I guess they'll be kicked out of the competition, precedent and all that...though I doubt they went to the trouble of calling the authorities first and checking it would be ok...

Some will be pleased to note that Australia lost to Bangladesh earlier today. Others will assume that this will make them so angry that England will face a hammering in the next few months.

Still others may assume that the most likely eventuality is that it will have no material effect whatsoever on the Ashes series. Australia are accustomed to losing in Asia so I don't imagine that they will have been particularly surprised or enfuriated. They usually play spin well in their own backyard, though, and so I don't think that Mo should be especially encouraged. Mason Crane certainly shouldn't be.

If we all put £1 in the pot for every post we make on here we'll have enough to fund the Grockles County Cricket Ground by the end of the season

Ireland's ODI v the West Indies abandoned without a ball being bowled despite bright sunshine from well before the start of play and much of the morning. Couldn't fault the groundstaff who had been working from 4.30am to try to dry the Stormont outfield after Aileen had dumped a fair amount of rain the previous night.

Ireland may have been granted Test status but they won't receive enhanced ICC funding to reflect that for another six months. Cart before the horse? If they don't have funding in place to improve drainage over the winter then an inaugural Test next summer could prove a washout.

JP Duminy has announced his retirement, with immediate effect, from Test and first class cricket.

So y'all can put your Kolpak cheque books away

JP Duminy had strong West Country connections, playing for Devon and top scoring against Lancashire when when Minor Counties were still allowed into the 50 overs cup competition (whatever it was called in those days).

Somerset might just have been interested in a Kolpak signing.

Isn't it still called the Gillette Cup? It is as far as I am concerned - and most people know what I mean.

And when J P Duminy played in that one game for Devon (2003) there were no less than 4 players in the same side who had played for neighbours Somerset.
