Elgar in for Abel, apart from that same eleven as last t20 match.
(as per mail out)

Still no place for Peter Treo.

Still no Fakhar

From cricinfo

He has obtained a work permit - which should prove the hard part - and is now just waiting for a visa

Need him for the CC games. We've got this far in the T20 without him.

Not really on the weekend but seems fun:

Weston-super-Mare CC v James Hildreth's Somerset XI

Tuesday August 15th 2017

Gates Open 4pm, Match starts 5.15pm, Entry £5 adults, £2 juniors.

It's in Weston, good luck lads!

Why the hell are a work permit and a visa separate? Absurd

But, seriously, a work permit means you are allowed to work, whereas a visa means you can enter the country.

But commmon sense says that nobody should be allowed to work in the UK, if they are not allowed to enter the country!

Being granted a visa without a work permit makes sense (for example, holidaymakers from certain nations) The other way around?

An utter nonsense.

100% home record so far.
About time we beat Kent!
Glamorgan blew up Friday night.
2 home wins this weekend and we are through.
Dean in for Tom today.
Forecast set fair.

AG: you have failed to take into account that visas are granted for specific purposes. In this case, Fakhar has applied for a work visa. The issues which are considered by the authorities when deciding whether to grant a visa are broader than those considered when deciding whether to permit someone to work. It would be a nonsense to grant a work visa before determining that someone has permission to work!

The Home Office website indicates that 90% of non-settlement visa applications submitted in Islamabad are determined within 10 days.

Well unless we waited until the day that we announced this move to begin the process, we should be a very long way indeed past ten days by now!?

Wickham - so what's the difference between a "work permit," and a "work visa," - surely the former means you are allowed to work in the UK and the latter means... er, that you are allowed to enter the UK to work?

Or are you saying that the cricinfo story which draws a distinction between the two is wrong?

Regardless, Zaman seems unlikely to be coming anyway:

See the Somerset news thread too. Amir won't be available for Essex at Chelmsford either if this is true.

(and whilst some may rush to say 'oh it's just the Pak media, probably not true, perhaps worth remembering that the Zaman story was originally dismissed here in similar terms, only for Matthew to confirm its veracity).

Somebody get on to Matthew and advise him, urgently in case he hasn't seen this.

So what now?

Duminy, perhaps? I think the Saffer ODIs finish end of August (vs Bangla).

Wouldn't be available for Essex but would for the final four (or is it three?)

Get him now as overseas, then use the opportunity to chat him up for Kolpak going forward?

Other than doing nothing and just sticking with what we have, does anybody have any definitively better ideas?

(apparently, the Indian guys may only be available for two games).

You couldn't make it up. Nothung definite in Pakistan until the player walks on to the pitch and even then you go game by game.

Which is the TV game and which isn"t

Well it seems you are not leaving us once again Botham after reviewing your social media arrangements. Colour me not suprised.

Hope the weather is good for tomorrow. There was s hell of a wind up there on Thursday. Bring your thermals.

The Thatcher's Terrace. I ask you. Bit we couldn't work out a use for more like. Though it does give you a hell of a view of the hills.

Yep - hence my Jim Why?

Got under one unfortunately. But these two need to start moving towards a target of another 100 off the second 10 to make this competitive. Anything over 175 has to be looked for.

Kent have a lot of T20 variation in their bowling though.

100 up in 12.2.

Amazing awareness from Hildreth. looks to reverse sweep but then realises it isn't coming there and therefore adopts a left handers stance and runs it down to the boundary instead. Changes his mind in midshot - brilliant
