The trouble is, when a batsman plays no stroke (I assume he raised his bat well out of the way) it just looks 'out'.

In televised matches, I often find myself instantly saying 'Out' because the batsman just looks culpable. Ok, professional umpires shouldn't, but I think there was once a theory that 9, 10 and 11 in the order also get more duff LBW decisions against them, because unlike front line batsmen, when they miss the ball, they just look 'out' (because it wasn't a very competent attempt to get bat on ball in the first place).
