For those who haven't seen the video that the police have, this is it if you have the patience to wait for the advert to finish, be warned it is violent. [www.thesun.co.uk]

I agree that, if Stokes needs replacing, it should be with primarily a batsman (goodness knows who - maybe Dawson, Northeast, Westley, Livingstone -I like Plunkett, but could even consider someone like Darren Stevens). But if the selectors go for a proper batsman, that would increase Craig's chances of the 9 spot.

It's all but certain that the conservative selectors, IMO, would go with a specialist batsman.

Well I'm not acquainted with what level of violence justifies a custodial sentence these days, but this video does not look good for Ben Stokes. Trying to fade into the background and keep out of trouble he most certainly is not.

Of course, if they do go for a batting replacement, not necessarily out of conservatism but to replace Stokes' main strength, one obvious candidate would, ironically, be Alex Hales.

I note an advert immediately above this post for a "razer" (sic). Is that something that razes points from the deserving.

I am told that such ads are targeted on the basis of algorithms linked to one's lifestyle. Very impressive, given that I have not shaved since Boxing Day 1972.

Jack Leach and Dom Bess named in 17 man Lions squad that will shadow the Ashes group during the first three Tests of the tour

Yes, no surprise. Well done to both.

Well done as you say, well deserved.

As well deserved as it is, it's a bit of a pointless squad to my mind. It's a bit like the Peter Kay Tour that doesn't Tour Tour!

The Lions are taking three spinners in their 17, with Dom and Jack augmented by 19-year-old off-spinner Amar Virdi from Surrey.

So perhaps the Age of the Spinner hasn`t been totally consigned to the dustbin of posterity yet (am I mixing my metaphors there?).

Where is the Surrey guy who was 'good enough' for the full tour last year instead of Jack? Not Batty of course.

You will all be shocked to hear that, as per the genius that is Alec Stewart, he has the perfect replacement for Ben Stokes for the Ashes, should one be needed, in the form of, yep......... Jason Roy.

As and when one of the pacemen break down, I look forward to reading about his nomination of Jade Dernbach.

And, if he were to suggest an all-rounder to replace Stokes, it would surely be the 37 year old, Rikki Clarke.

Just for excrement and giggles, I suggest that after the forthcoming Ashes pasting, England sack Gus Fraser et al and appoint A J Stewart as lone selector with power over all he surveys....... just to see how many Brown Caps he really would pick...

That's an encouraging article in today's i and Independent about Craig, his passion, sledging and his ashes dreams.
