The Times today suggests that Craig could well be ahead of Finn and Ball for a place in first test and cites his batting and also his slip fielding.
However article also says that he adopt the same on the knees style as did MT. I did not see that on the bits I saw.

Chances increasing daily as Finn due to have a scan on a sore knee today (more worryingly Moeen also being scanned for a sore side)

Tour match against Western Australia in Perth starts tomorrow (Saturday) at 2.30am Somerset time (GMT+8).

Forecast is a hot 30 C, that's the first issue for us.

England have named a 13 man squad less Finn, Ali and Foakes (he is fit) so presumably including Craig. His spot will be contested by Ball and maybe it will be Balance or Malan?

As to the selection of Mason Crane, well good luck to him.

Australian media says Mitchell Johnson may not play so no singing that song for the time being.

Justin Langer is current coach.

Don't expect fireworks as it's a friendly

We play against a Western Australia Cricket Association XI, not the full state side I believe.

Can't wait to see how we go.

A glass half - empty or a glass half - full?
Regardless, both glasses need filling up.

First chance to impress overnight for Craig.
All 5 fit seamers playing.
Most likely 1 innings per side freindly so 2 maybe 3 spells to outbowl Mr Ball.
Then possibly a chance with bat if England manage to lose 7 wickets to WA 2nd XI.

A Cricinfo article is suggesting that Craig is in line for a place in the first Ashes Test!

For those inhabiting more obscure areas* of the globe you can access live streaming of the Ashes series - including the current warm-up match - if you subscribe to the Cricket Australia service. For AUD$49.99 you get a year's access.
Check out the CA website.

*obscure areas = most of continental Europe, Guernsey (not Jersey though) South America, Greenland, the Faroes, some Pacific island nations, some non-crickety Caribbean islands. Sadly Grizzzly no Canada nor, Grockle, Oman. There is a link to full details and list of available regions on the CA website. I don't know enough about VPNs to know if one would work for this.

There's 7 mins from today's play:

Let's hope Craig gets to bowl with some of the new ball tomorrow

Thanks Bagpuss.

It seems my choices are to explore VPN options, or move to Greenland.

I think I'll choose the former !

Still got a wicket though!
Another spell in this last session surely.....

Well done Craig, no one expects playing in Australia is easy. England needs a strong bowling line-up for the times when Jimmy is not firing and you are one of them

It's good experience for Craig Overton. Let's hope that he learns from it quickly.

Steven Finn on his way home after tearing a cartilage in his knee. He must've done something really bad in a past life, the luck he gets, poor bloke

Yes, really tough on Finn - though he shouldn't have been called up in the first place. I hope they go for a batsman now, maybe Livingstone or Northeast...
