Time to head South East
nelliec (IP Logged)

So we move on again next week to probably the toughest fortnight of the season in the South East.A win and a draw and we’d probably think it must be our year.
Once again England call ups appear to favour us.
Surrey will be without Sam Curran,Tom Curran and Ben Foakes.Well be without Craig.
Hopefully Jack and Tim will both be fit and available.
Momentum is building and the belief within the team is growing.Roll on to next week.Cant wait!!!!

When the ECB announced that Essex captain Ryan ten Doeschate was being banned for two matches for disciplinary reasons,it was viewed that it was for two championship matches - as the offences involved had been in the championship.

But now it appears it is any kind of match. So he will serve out in tomorrow`s Royal London one-day quarter-final against Yorkshire, and the championship match against Notts next week, making him available for Somerset`s floodlit visit to Chelmsford on June 25-28.

Strange.

So surely he should be banned for 8 days of cricket not for 5 days.

But surely if Essex win their quarter final their next game will be the semi final -before the championship game- so logically that becomes his second game and his ban is 2 days only.

Is Dean Elgar still available for Surrey against us,or has he gone home?
Do Surrey currently have an overseas player if that is the case,to replace Kohli?

Disclaimer - I've never watched the TV show!

Bag puss was right about Surrey signing another overseas player.SA De Bruyn(not the one we know) for 2 games. How much does Alec Stewart want to win this league

Nothing wrong with Stewart trying to maximise Surrey's chances of success (providing it is within the rules).

That looks a good signing for Surrey although a quick check of cricinfo seems to indicate he has not played since March so he may be a bit rusty. Let's hope so!

I do hope we have a replacement overseas player lined up for when Renshaw leaves as need to maximise our chances of success too.

The suggestion at the ground during the Notts game was that we were in talks with Pakistan top order batter Azhar Ali.

Club mentioned no names at Q&A, so guess we’ll have to watch this space!

Will we play two spinners away from home? Not sure. Knowing spin bowling is our strength will Essex serve up a dry pitch? Considering David Masters topped the wicket taking charts for years bowling at 80mph landing it on the spot and nibbling it about a bit and that Jamie Porter has slipped seamlessly into the role he vacated, Josh Davey may be a bit useful at Chelmsford especially under lights.

With Harmer, spin is also one of Essex's strengths.

He took over 70 champo wickets last year, and along with Porter was the main reason they won the championship.

If Jamie Porter has slipped seamlessly into Masters' role, is that not ball tampering!!(Sorry couldn't resist)

Yes, Surrey first.

Would be good to know that Jack and TG are fit and ready to play.

Given the likely batting friendly conditions at Guildford I would commit heresy by dropping /resting Lewis and risk playing Jove in the hope that he can get his radar working and blast a few wickets away.

Then likely revert to Scrumper’s XI for Chelmsford.

A thoroughly scurrilous and unwarranted comment - which I, for one, hugely enjoyed (having washed out my ears as deeply as I hoped you washed out your mouth).

If anyone is going to Guildford there is a really good greasy spoon cafe just outside the ground near the railway bridge that does excellent breakfasts.
