England start their tour today with a warm up match against a CWI XI in Barbados. Good news for Jack who gets the nod over Adil Rashid. No place for Jos Buttler although I think he'll just be rested as he's had plenty of cricket in the BBL.

Some on here seem to think it is ok to play football other do not.

Jos Buttler has admitted it "probably doesn't make too much sense" for England to play football as part of their training routine.
Butter, England's vice-captain, insisted the players were "very careful" and tried to keep things safe while playing. But he conceded there were "obvious risks" involved and confirmed they would accept it if Ashley Giles decided they should no longer play.

Baggers, is it a 1, 2 or 3-day game, do you know?

See Olly Stone has broken down again. Maybe an opportunity for an Overton?

Fairly and boringly predictable. Will he survuve the whole tour?

What on earth is the point of these warm-up "matches" where anyone can bat twice, both sides field as many players as they like, a draw is the agreed result beforehand (bit like Russian masters playing each other at international chess tournaments in the 60s), and any competitive element is 100% absent?
How does this benefit anyone more than four days of net practice honestly styled as such?
I recall the days when the match with a touring team used to be a county side's high point of the season, barring a home Gillette semi-final. I don't know what's going off out there.

A civilised time for some test cricket, no Jack, will we win without him?

Looking at the state of the Barbados wicket I am surprised Jack isn't in. The conversations after the Sri Lanka series was that Rashid was the preferred spunner for the Windies. Time for him to justify that. Nothing happening presently.

Afraid the golden surrey boys are not quite as good as they thought they were. If Broad and Leach are left out next time there is no hope for us all!

Sorry folks but after England's 77 I couldn't resist this...

Just a little ditty with a 'hidden' suggestion of an additional batsman who might be called up.

Thank you Farmer. And well done the Windies, they could have enforced the follow on. At least (some of) England's bowlers have got some match practice now. I can't wait to see the batsman in your poem again. Somerset's selectors understand his strength in these situations

Thank you all. Very much appreciated.

It didn't take me overly long SJB. Three or four hours last evening. Bizarrely, I have found working to the constraint of fixed first letters of a line in a poem is actually easier than free writing. I suppose it concentrates a mind that is used to wandering here, there and everywhere before forgetting where it set out from and where it was supposed to be going!
