Press release from the club today.

Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to announce today the appointments of Heath Streak and Stuart Barnes as Consultant Bowling Coaches.

Streak, who featured in 65 Tests and 189 ODIs for Zimbabwe, will be working with the squad for the full duration of the Club’s pre-season programme in Abu Dhabi.

Barnes, who has coached Bangladesh, Surrey and England Young Lions amongst others, will be working with Somerset’s bowlers during the Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.

Regarding the appointments Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry said: “Heath has a vast amount of playing and coaching experience at both International and domestic levels, including with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

“Stuart will be working with our bowlers throughout the duration of the Royal London One-Day Cup and will also be supporting the development of our bowlers in the 2nd XI team within this timeframe.

“Both coaches are extremely well respected within the game and have a rich mixture of experience, both Internationally and domestically. Their appointment provides our experienced and developing bowlers with a fantastic opportunity to tap into their extensive knowledge.”

Regarding his appointment, Heath Streak said: “I’m excited to work with such an exciting group of bowlers during the pre-season campaign. Somerset has a rich history and I hope to impart some of what I've learnt as both a player and coach onto these men so that the Club continues to grow in success.”

Stuart Barnes said: “Having been born in Bath, I’m very excited to be able to work with the County I supported while growing up. I have the opportunity to work with a group of extremely talented and skilful bowlers and it’s my role to help them and the team achieve success. I cannot wait to get started.”

Stuart Barnes? Does that mean a change from a football kickabout to a rugby throwabout before play? That would be a great improvement in my opinion.

Te he LoL, though I make you right, a touch rugby run around would seem a much better warm up.
I’m assuming this Stuart Barnes is the one with a handful of unremarkable games for Gloucestershire in the 80’s but who has a very decent bowling coach CV first with Gloucs and more recently Surrey?
