Ben Green, who has scarce got a mention in the debate over the side to face Essex on Sunday, goes into tomorrow`s Seconds Trophy semi-final with Durham at Taunton Vale (11am) in fine form.

He batted virtually all day today at Southgate against a strong Middlesex Seconds bowling attack (Bamber, Roland-Jones, Harris et al) to score an unbeaten 101 from 284 balls, after the top order struggled under cloudy skies to not much more than 20 for 4.

He was partnered in the rescue act by Ollie Sale, whose main card is usually as a bowler but who stuck with Green for 39 in 156 balls. Somerset just eased past Middlesex`s first innings 183 by two runs for the loss of seven wickets. End result, after buckets of rain earlier - a draw.

Jason Kerr has named a 12-man squad for the semi-final, which is being streamed live:
Byrom, Green, Rouse, Lammonby, Bess, Sale, Gilchrist, Young, Wells, Goldsworthy, Aldridge and Reed.

I don't know what the eligibility rules are, but I'm surprised to see no Davey, Groenewald, van Meekeren, maybe even Tres...shows what an abundance of riches we have, I guess.

It is not a question of eligibility, SP2, but of Somerset`s totally right determination to select the semi-final side from the players who have got the Seconds so far. Will Durham do the same?

Nothing wrong with that policy at all cjm, I just thought that those players might have played a part in getting the team there.

Disappointing to see the seconds beaten. Fine performance from Tom Lammonby, though.

And they stuck with them through to the semi final which was a good thing as well.

Not an particularly impressive performance by Mr Bess.

No, it wasn’t.

Still think Jason Kerr’s comments about Leachy being ‘unproven,’ in white ball cricket (made earlier this season) were strange in light of the fact that Dom, who is less proven than Leachy, did play a few games).
