Jim Troughton has been appointed as Warwickshire’s first-team coach, and the BBC article on this news suggests it is highly likely he will work under Ashley Giles, who seems set to be appointed as their director of cricket once compensation has been agreed with Lancashire.

It has been confirmed that Ashley Giles has returned to Warwickshire as sport director. His role will be different to when he was Lancashire's head coach, which is a role in which Glen Chapple will act, with Mark Chilton becoming acting assistant coach.

Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossouw have signed for Hampshire as Kolpak players, and have thus retired from representing South Africa. Abbott has signed a contract until 2020, while Rossouw has signed until 2019. They follow Simon Harmer, Stiaan van Zyl and Hardus Viljoen in being signed by counties as Kolpak players in recent months, as well as many South Africans in the last couple of decades. Unsurprisingly, those involved in cricket in SA aren’t happy about this. Abbott and Rossouw say that coming to Hampshire gives them extra security, although Abbott says that unlike many others to have signed as a Kolpak, the quota system did not play a role in his decision to sign.

Billy Godleman has extended his contract at Derbyshire until 2019.

Matt Walker has been appointed as Kent's head coach, with Allan Donald his assistant.

I can't quite suppress a little chuckle when white South Africans complain about the quota system. Go back to apartheid days and the quota for black players (and quite a lot else) was, er, a maximum of zero.

If Trump has got Monty's number, it is probably to keep him out. Not forever, of course but "until we understand what is going on".

Ne does have some decent Variations though and would add some Pomp&Circumstances re SA Internationals might hinder his chances in the Somerset side.

The influx of Kolpak players coming into county cricket is continuing, as Lancashire has signed Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dane Vilas. Chanderpaul has signed for just 2017, but Vilas has signed up to 2018.

County cricket is going back to the middle of the last decade!

Stocking up on has-beens for when their good younger players are engaged elsewhere for the middle of the season?
