As I have stated elsewhere, I am confident Middlesex can retain their County Championship title, although you can never be certain. I often say that if we can’t win the title, then it would be nice if Somerset could finally win it, so there is a part of me that would like them to again be in the title mix. Somerset’s acquisition of Steven Davies is the only arrival amongst last season's top three sides, so that could impede the chances of the season ending with the same three sides in the title race. Surrey always have big ambitions, and they have been boosted by the arrivals of Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick. Hampshire have shown a desire to finally spent a season in division one that doesn’t end in a relegation battle, as they have signed George Bailey, Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossouw. However, I am sure that the three other teams will be keen to prove me wrong.

The White Rose Forum has a similar poll. Just for fun I tried to vote - and found I could, despite not being a member. At least I think I could, because I can;t get a screen with voting buttons again, and the poll does now show someone voting for eighth place!

All a bit of fun but it surprised me, and increased my doubts about the value of any poll.

Div 2 prediction ? Waste of time predicting since with teams playing each other once or twice a season home or away, floodlit or normal.

Good thing is a least 2 decent grounds to visit whoever comes up and two of the not so nice ones drop to div 2 in season 2018.

A lot of people anticipated that Middlesex, Yorkshire and Somerset would once again be in the title mix. However, I warned that others could catch up due to ourselves and Yorkshire not strengthening their County Championship squads and Somerset’s only acquisition being Steven Davies. In the end, we got relegated, with Yorkshire and Somerset being just two and one points ahead respectively.

I fancied Hampshire to do well and be closer to the title mix than to their customary brush with relegation, but they ended up continuing to type.

The big surprise was promoted Essex not only winning the title, but doing so comfortably with 10 wins, 4 draws, 0 defeats, and securing the title after 12 matches, which is presumably a record.
