Durham firsts don't look too clever either after their "fire sale" to Surrey.

A comfortable win for the 2's Kent 182

Ravi Patel 4-50

Nathan Sowter 4-31

I have to say I'm disappointed that there doesn't appear to be any reference to today's game taking place on the official site- nor was there any updates on the Middlesex twitter feed. I only got the scorecard via Kent twitter.

Also, a month after receiving the pre season Middlesex magazine giving details of our new academy players, I note the website as STILL not updated the academy section.

Clearly only the firsts matter to whoever is responsible for keeping us up to date.

I see as an afterthought they put a tweet out about an hour ago.

Must have read this thread!

From Sorry Outcast Phil Catchpole.
"Middlesex declare with almost 500 on the board Compton 107 Lace 94 and Sowter 82 main run scorers. Massive chase for Kent just to get close ( Kent made a 151 total) which on that wicket was well below par. Credit to the bowlers though. Over a day left so anyone going you could be in the Cat and Fiddle for an excellent luncheon affair."

I think our seconds will struggle to find anyone capable of giving us a game this year.

Kent have recovered from a disastrous 0-2, and are currently 49-2.

Middlesex 2nd XI won by 65 runs thanks to fifties from Nick Compton, Paul Stirling and Ryan Higgins and three wickets apiece for Tom Helm and Harry Podmore.

Several members of our line-up hope to feature in our Royal London Cup campaign, so this result is good preparation for that.

Surrey 2nd XI seemed to also see the match as preparation for the RLC, as they included Ravi Rampaul and Stuart Meaker. I am sure they would also have found a place for Glenn Maxwell had he not been at the IPL!

Anyone know anything about T Barber who has featured in all our 2's matches this term?

Not in the academy, so may be a bit older. Another australian, or south african, or a late developer home grown player?

I think there is a good chance that the player is Tom Barber, a 21-year-old fast bowler who played two List A matches for Hampshire in 2014, represented Somerset 2nd XI and Dorset in 2016, and played two matches for MCC Young Cricketers earlier this month.

Thanks Jonathan.

I think you are probably right. With so many of our young players at college or university, I can see how there can be a gap that needs filling in the 2's for a few weeks, until term ends. But I doubt he will be able to get a contract with us (if that is what he is hoping for) as we are already well stocked in the seam bowling department.
