Even more baffling than his reluctance to give Ravi an extended bowl, was the captain's reluctance to turn his arm over.
It must be said that, if Franklin is unwilling to contribute with the ball (not the first time he's gone missing when there's work to be done!), then he's not worth his spot in the team.

His captaincy nous is uninspiring and with the notable exception of one or two, the body language and demeanour of the team was very downbeat.

Time for Mala to take over ?

It wasn't long ago that posters who support James Franklin were claiming the upper hand over those who have expressed doubts about Franklin! Sometimes he has a good match with the bat, sometimes he has a good match with the ball and sometimes he does neither. Hopefully it won’t be long before he has another one of his good matches.

If Stephen Parry, Steven Croft or Liam Livingstone play a role in the taking of Middlesex’s four wickets, then that would mean that the underuse of Ravi Patel in the first innings wouldn’t look good, especially if Patel then takes some wickets in Lancashire’s second innings.

If the body language is wrong that is cause for concern. Last season's triumph was all about teamwork and inspirational captaincy and if that is absent then action is needed. Why did Franklln not bowl? Is he carrying an injury? Why did he not give Patel a longer bowl, instead of flogging our pace bowlers?

Ahem - what's the over rate like?

Good report as always.
I was at the game today and will be there to support the lads tomorrow.
This has of course been a very disappointing day. Something remarkable will have to happen tomorrow for us to win, but this is sport, and all things are possible.
Our form in the championship so far this season has been a little disappointing. However, it was just a few months ago when we won the title for the first time in 23 years and I just ask everyone to remember that, and our coaches and players should be able to rely on our members and supporters to get behind the team.

Thank you Lower Pav for your kind words and optimism. Remind me again where you sit at Lord's?

The over rate according to score board is -2 . I'm not sure how much scope there is for some Don wizardry. At one stage was worried what would happen if we lost by an innings. Meanwhile, if we set a target without Ravi being trusted I'm concerned we may still end up with less than 3 points from this game.

I suspect that the main aim today will be to bat long enough to ensure that the over rate can be got back to zero.

Be great if I am wrong though!

Given that away performances won the CC last year it is a bit worrying that we have been outplayed in both away matches so far. Only a sample of two, mind.
