Another must win game (only 6 more needed to win the competition)

14 man squad named-

Robbie White makes a first team squad for the first time. He's been scoring consistently for the 2's in recent weeks. Once we are out I had thought he might get a debut, with John Simpson possibly being rested (not dropped)

Morgan(c) Barber, Eskinazi, Finn, Franklin, Helm, Higgins, Patel, Scott, Simpson (wk) Southee, Sowter, Stirling, White.

Ravi Patel at least makes squad. Ominously, no mention of James Harris.

Well we are on a winning streak and off to what has been described as a cess pit of a ground for this form. Good luck to both the Middlesex fans making the journey.

Went to this hole of a ground twice, and twice too much!
Was with Kimmy and can't remember if it was a t20 or one day game, but the baying crowd was the same.
Shows how long ago,Mark O'Neill was still at the club and kindly gave us a lift home.
Other time, going to the station, some guy was slightly under the weather due to alcohol and just collapsed on the station stairs!

It was T20 Beefy. I think Warner was playing . He had a confrontation with their quick.

He got 42 and I seem to recall that we won. Essex and Mx have roughly shared T20 results between the two clubs.

If Middlesex win this match, then it would get us believing that we have a genuine chance of getting into the quarter-finals. However, a defeat may leave us fearing we could finish bottom.

It would be a surprise if we make any changes from last night’s win v Sussex at Lord’s. The result means we have won four matches, but they have all been at home and on a Thursday.

Essex’s XI is likely to be Varun Chopra (6), Adam Wheater (31), Dan Lawrence (28), Ravi Bopara (25), Ryan ten Doeschate (27)*, Ashar Zaidi (99), James Foster (7), Paul Walter (22), Simon Harmer (11), Mohammad Amir (5), Matt Dixon (30), as their website lists only those players in their squad. Then again, it only names 11 players in our squad, so those players named could simply be a predicted XI.

Middlesex have won the toss and will bowl.

We have replaced Steven Finn for Tom Barber.

Essex seem set a post a large total.

I think that Steven Finn’s absence is due to a calf injury.

Tim Southee’s absence for last week’s match v Hampshire at Lord's was so he could attend a wedding, which is an allowance agreed when he signed for Middlesex.

Considering Essex were 114-3 after 12 overs, it isn’t a bad effort on Middlesex’s part that Essex finished on 172-9.

Well done to Nathan Sowter on taking 4-23, and to Tom Helm on once again bowling economically.

COnsidering the light has considerably faded in Wembley, I am worried about the light when we play Gloucestershire at Uxbridge on Tuesday, which is scheduled to take place 5:30pm to 8:15pm without the aid of floodlights.

It is a shame that Middlesex fell 9 runs short to leave ourselves needing a miracle to reach the knockout stages. It didn’t help that we lost wickets at crucial moments and that what we achieved by scoring 56 from the powerplay was outdone by losing three wickets in that time.

Why does Higgins get held back behind Franklin in the batting order when we're falling behind the asking rate?

I agree Fozzie.

Ryan Higgins does at least have a natural aptitude for T20.

Franklin getting picked because there isn't any one else.

Higgins should definitely be batting higher up (in T20 & also in the Championship). George Scott did all right today but his strike rate was only 94 & by the time Higgins came in it was pretty much a lost cause.

So that's it for this year. It would have been better to get John Wright as a specialist T20 coach. He seems to be working miracles at Derbyshire.

So can we declare our season officially over, RL ....never got started. CC chance of a title defence (though relegation might still be on) and T20 went beyond the stage of needing snookers last evening?

Never mind Uxbridge will be sold out on Tuesday evening so should make the club a few quid (one of our few money making chances of the season).

Looking at Nathan Sowter's figures. Ravi should have partnered him. A good chance the run chase would have been a more reachable 150 ish.

That would require imagination. Middlesex white ball cricket and imagination are not happy bed fellows. Been the situation for the past decade.

Both white ball campaigns have run along similar lines. Never at the races.

With Stirlo out for one, did well to get that close. The out door half way open. 14 points top wack. Three teams on 12 points with games left.

Still we still have the CC relegation battle left for interest.

Steven Finn seemed to be walking well when I saw him before today’s Watford v Liverpool match, so his injury is surely not bad. I later saw on Twitter that Liverpool supporters Tim Murtagh and James Franklin were there too. Moeen Ali was there too and spoke at half-time.

Ryan Higgins seems to have tried his hand at football, although his appearance for Torquay United away to Gateshead has seen him concede an own goal. Clearly it is a common name, as someone of that name played 11 ODIs for Zimbabwe in 2006.
