Not wanting to put pressure on nathan have we found a genuine spinner who can bat a little.Let's hope so

He appears to have supplanted Patel in the one day reckoning and is a better bat and fielder. I would like to see how he fares in the 4 day game where we could do with a spinner who takes the occasional wicket.

On that Fred, we are as one. Been crying out in the red ball game for a spinner.

1. to spell a pace bowler, certainly in the 50/60 to 80 over mark. 2. to give batsmen a fresh problem to think about.

Spinner, Ravi, underused at Southport while the game was still a live issue in the first innings..

A few overs in the second innings were irrelevant, as Lancashire at that point were coasting to victory.

Nathan does have the edge in the two skills that you mention. In the one day format, two spinners mid innings often slow progress. Has worked for us in the past.

Perhaps the club have looked at our posts and decided to give nathan a 2 year contract on the strength of them.Congratulations Nathan.

This is great news for Nathan Sowter.

However, success for any sportsperson usually has to come at at least one other person’s expense, and this is no different, as not only has Sowter unquestionably leapfrogged Ravi Patel, but he is putting pressure on Ollie Rayner. In the article about his contract extension, Sowter hinted he has ambition to establish himself in our County Championship side, and I imagine our coaches will give him all the help needed to achieve this goal.

Something else Sowter alluded to was that he had to make “tough decisions” to get to this stage, which I imagine is a reference to the fact he can no longer play as a domestic player in Australia despite some Big Bash sides being interested in him.

Both Patel and Rayner’s contracts end in 2018. Although there is no evidence that Rayner’s days at the club are numbered, I am very fearful about Patel. I hope that another county will come in for him either this winter or the following winter, or that he can suddenly return to the Middlesex side, as it would be sad if he becomes unwanted. However, I feel pessimistic, as there aren’t many vacancies around the county circuit for spinners. Then again, in about 10 minute’s time, maybe I will see he has been selected for our match v Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens, which would be great for him.

Nathan is what Ravi and to a degree Ollie aren't, a spinner who spins the ball,is an excellent fielder and knows which end of the bat to hold and how to use the other end to good effect.

You never get anywhere standing still and the Rabbit has taken just about every chance offered to him to impress, to such a degree that a two year contract was offered to him.

Lovely blokes Ollie and Ravi but they both need to be looking to up their game in the coming seasons if they are not to be passed in the pecking order by Nathan.

Agree Diamond. Well deserved. Like Higgo he shows plenty of enthusiasm in whatever he is asked to do.
