WE will almost certainly take 9 points from a draw, Warwickshire a mere 3 points, as they are bound to lose to Lancashire, and Somerset will probably walk away from Essex with 8 points from a rain ruined fixture (or they might lose, and only take 3 points)

So Warwickshire and Somerset won't be able to close the gap between them and us, and they are starting to run out of games to do so in.

Tim Murtagh and Paul Stirling have been called-up for Ireland’s ODI v West Indies on Wednesday 13th September, meaning they will be unable to play in Middlesex’s County Championship match v Hampshire at Uxbridge beginning the previous day. I imagine that this will guarantee Tom Helm’s place in our line-up for this match. Also, Nick Gubbins should be fit by then, while Max Holden will be another option. We will have to see whether any of Dawid Malan, Toby Roland-Jones and Steven Finn will be available for the Hampshire match or whether they will be required for England’s limited-overs matches v West Indies.

Nick Compton has retired hurt overnight, so Stevie Eskinazi starts the day with Robbo...

This looks a very optimistic prognosis, with Middlesex currently just 29 ahead and 4 wickets down - effectively 5 down if Compton doesn't bat.

Nor is it beyond the realms of possibility that Somerset win. With Lancs certain to win, weather permitting, Essex will be keen to win themselves, so a declaration is likely with Somerset being set a gettable target. And the word is that Mohammed Amir may be unfit to bowl...

Quite honestly we shouldn't have to be looking over our shoulders nervously. We have the same squad as last year.

This is now getting very serious.
Just checked and 6 down,7 in all probability with Compo having back spasms.
Injuries etc can't be helped and are part and parcel in any sport,but......how can this performances carry on,and in virtually all 3 competitions this year?
Looks like defeat number 4 is looming, that is bad enough, but to the Mexicans, god help us.
Can you imagine that lot, crowing after this, having to put up with them going on about it?
It's painful enough looking on the internet as at work, but for those watching must be even worse.
I feel so low at the moment, feel sick and can't concentrate that much.
I'm going to check the score again now,and not looking forward to it.

Somerset 56-5 going down the pan chasing 289, and Warwickshire are about to lose in next 10 minutes or so.

We can still save this, and even if not, the two bottom teams won't be closing the gap.

So, that means we might find ourselves having to declare at 4.30, in order to get a few overs of Rayner and Stirling in to sort the over rate out.

And, in so doing, potentially give Surrey the chance of a win. As things stand 37 overs left , (according to commentators. Subtract 2 and a bit (I assume they haven't already done that) and Surrey might end up (if we declare at 4.30) with about 27 overs to get around 200.

I'm assuming we would have to declare around 4.30 to sort out over rate. If we bat on till 5pm we would have batted Surrey out of the game, and everyone would shake hands on a draw. So, if we haven't been bowled out by 4.30, I reckon we have to declare.

There's a lesson there- Don't just assume you can sort the over rate out in the second innings. What if there isn't one?

Actually 39 overs after tea (minus 2 for change of innings).

Commentators haven't mentioned Middle over rate at all today- so maybe we are in the clear?

Match delayed crowd trouble according to BBC!!

I hope no one on here involved, in any sort of way.

A metal arrow thrown or launched from the back of the OCS stand.

Sounds like game might be abandoned.

I'd like all remaining overs bowled if possible. Not the right way to get a draw (although we were well on the way to making the game safe)

Apparently a metal-tipped arrow was fired from the top of the OCS stand which landed near the fielders close to the wicket, and the umpires immediately took the players off. Sounds as if the match may be called off as police search the stand.

Speculation it might have come from outside the ground.

Cricket comes second here.
Let's just hope all at the ground get home safely.
Text telling me everyone have been asked to go inside for safety reasons by the police.

Armed police now at the ground, but apparently everything is calm and the spectators are all under cover.

Apparently pictures suggest the crossbow bolt was about 18" long and was embedded some 6" in the ground. Awful to think what damage that might have caused.

Elsewhere, in a saner world, Somerset and Warks have both lost.
