6 overs left.

It's not going to happen.

The final nail banged in by Gareth Berg. Oh the irony.

Yeah not bad for a player who would never play again...

Oh well.

At least we can look forward to Marty Emmerson's commentary next year.

At least he hates Surrey (Emmerson).

Genuine question as I don't know the law on this one:

Why were Essex allowed to bowl those last few crucial overs at us in the day/night match but all other games seem to have ended after the scheduled overs? I gather it was something to do with the clock (they were allowed up until 21.00 if I recall) but this Hampshire game has finished at 17.41 with no mention of it being allowed to continue until 18.00. What's the difference?

hdo-

Because of 10.30 start, official end time was 5.30, rather than 6pm.

Our history of slow over rate and getting shot of Berg certainly came back to bite us hard in the bum.

Berg played in all 14 cc games this year with a batting average of 31 and bowling average of 26. Sign him up!

Ballcocks. We've been poor. No complaints

All over so we can start afresh in Div 2 - hopefully with a few of the old guard departed with a new captain and a decent overseas player who will play the whole season.
We have had a bad season and by avoiding relegation we would have only papered over the cracks and struggled next year.
Would think Gus will do the honourable thing and resign.
The start of a new era!!!!!!

Franklin for Berg is undoubtedly the one big error Gus made.

I know people think I'm hot on contracts, but Berg had a year to go on his contract (and wanted to stay) when we somehow managed to get a specialists report that said he had a career ending injury, so we were able to dump him.

Considering how good he had been for us, we should have given him that season to see if he could recover, which he obviously did.

Well, the truth is guys that, in the league this year, there were Essex who were very good and Warks who were very bad and six teams that were all much of a muchness.

You guys were very unlucky both with the Oval and Uxbridge.

The pitch issue at Taunton has still not been put to bed. God only knows why Whitticase couldn't have shifted his @#$%& to Taunton today rather than waiting until tomorrow - what does he think he's going to see or hear tomorrow that he wouldn't have done today?

So it's still possible that he could over-rule his own staff, having not seen a ball of the match himself (though I suppose he can watch the whole thing on Youtube if he wants).

I suspect that the upshot of all of this will be that they will change the rule back again so that 'excessive turn = a poor pitch and a points deduction.'

I think what they'll feel here is that SCCC went too far in loading the track in our favour..but that there is no sanction that they can bring to bear if they follow their own rules as they stand today.

Have to say I'm one of those pesky Surrey fans (born and bred) but I personally would have much preferred to have had you stay up. I for one look forward to the games against you, admittedly I never get the time to go and watch but it is the kind of contest we all enjoy.

No doubt the farce of incorrectly deducting points after the crossbow incident has done for you. Personally hope you bounce straight back.

Let's hope Dawid Malan wants to stay.

He hasn't signed a new deal yet.

If he is the kind of bloke who 'has' to play in Division one, we'll lose him.

Notwithstanding our dreadful demise,it seems obvious by some of the
scores and inclement weather in the last couple of rounds of matches that
pushing the Championship to nearly Xmas is not in the best interests of the
game...

The cricinfo report suggests this may not be over yet - with the possibility both of a Somerset points deduction for the pitch and a Middlesex points reinstatement for the Oval over rate possible.

Two questions - would either of these be enough to save us or would we need both? And what are the chances, anyone?

It wouldn’t be an ideal way to stay up and we clearly haven’t played well this year (I haven’t been able to see much due to work), but these were two rather exceptional circumstances - one unprecedented, the other seemingly fairly clearly a bending of the rules....
