There is a good discussion on Come on the 'Rey, part of the gist of which is that if the whole ground is taken over for five to six weeks Surrey might actually lose out because the loss of other income (e g conference income) would be insufficient to compensate for the £150K plus percentage of takings, with the proviso that nobody there is sure whether takings are more than just gate receipts, or who gets the food and drink income.

I suspect we have several tiers of counties here, potentially in different situations:-
- counties that will not be hosting
- counties that will be hosting in modest-sized grounds (Bristol?)
- counties that will be hosting in large grounds
- Surrey (huge commercial income because they are in London)
- Middlesex (humble tenants).

At the moment it looks as if counties may be asked to bid to host this stuff with only the vaguest idea of the finances. Not our problem whether to apply to host but I doubt anyone has any real idea of how much income Middlesex would get out of the new competition.

Adelaide

Spot on Adelaide. I read all of that on their(Surrey) site. On this, we and they are on the same page. In some regards they maybe worse off than us. As the franchise will require total access.

This means all Surrey advertising goes for the six week period plus hiring out rooms for conferences a likely casualty.

The Surrey aficionados are questioning whether the Pringle 150 grand staging fee will cover that, although there is now talk of retaining 30% of the overall take.

Their Relegation thread which I note that you contributed to, was on the whole fair comment on what happened..to the Middle..

One bloke had read MTWD and said that we, MX, had pointed out other shortcomings over the season..like the Essex foul up and not chasing against them, Surrey..for 240ish. they seemed confident that we would have got them had we tried..

A couple of them also made sensible comment about the biblical torrents that hit Uxbridge during the Hampshire game..

Unlike the Abu brigade who piled on here, most of whom never showed their face.

Presumably MCC will be expected to do likewise to Surrey...this will be interesting...the advertising will cost us nothing as that arrangement ended around 2000. The booze we get nothing from either..

At the moment, according to Pringle, MCC get 150grand staging fee plus 30% of the overall take.

We get the 1.3 million bribe. We need to make sure we get that, even if it requires an escort to collect from the ECB offices...
