I was impressed with what I saw during the England U19 World cup coverage.

Dad has played Hitler in a film, and Great Uncle Clive played Hyacinth Bucket's husband in keeping Up Appearances.

After performing well for England U-19 at the World Cup, it was likely that Middlesex would reward Ethan Bamber with a professional contract.

The bad news for Bamber is that there are plenty of other international-quality fast bowlers at the club, which means he will have a tough task breaking into our 1st XI, although of course those bowlers are likely to receive call-ups or become injured, while Tim Murtagh won’t go on forever.

The good news for Bamber is that he will learn a lot from being surrounded by those fast bowlers and by working with Richard Johnson.

At the 2018 U-19 World Cup, Bamber took 8 wickets at an average of 13.50, strike rate of 21 and economy of 3.85.

If he has chosen to go to uni, he will have to accept that his career will not necessarily move forward as quickly as if he was a full-time cricketer.

He will of course have his first course at 10'oclock.

That will be his starter for 10.

Ethan comes from a family of actors. He has chosen a different career path by emerging through the Middlesex Cricket Academy. He has signed a three-year summer contract. He has also represented the England under-19 team.

* Parents David Bamber & Julia Swift
* Grandparents David Swift (1931-2016) & Paula Jacobs
* Great-uncle Clive Swift
* Brother Theo Bamber

His parents David Bamber & Julia Swift, grandparents David Swift (1931-2016) & Paula Jacobs, as well as great-uncle Clive Swift and brother Theo Bamber are all actors.

David and Clive have both played rather ineffectual men of the cloth: David was a suitably oily Mr Collins in the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice, while Clive was the Bishop in The Barchester Chronicles, where he was ruthlessly dominated by his wife (Geraldine McEwan) and his chaplain (Alan Rickman).

With the current situation with our bowlers, it may not be too long before we see a debut for Bamber in the county championship.
