We should win Division 2 this year without too much bother, shouldn't we?

Sorry- I forgot there are 10 teams in Division 2, but we won't be finishing 10th, so no need to change poll.

I believe we will win CC2 but accept there are a lot of unknown variables which may impact on this

It is difficult to hide the fact that Middlesex really ought to get promoted considering the quality of our squad, which contains several players from in and around England or England Lions, and is very similar to the squad which won the division one title in 2016. However, for the second winter running, we appear not to have strengthened our squad, so hopefully we won’t regret it.

Whether we get promoted could come down to whether the big moments go our way, especially matches against the other teams going for promotion and matches against the teams everyone else seems to be beating. Therefore, I can see two crucial matches being those v Leicestershire at Grace Road in mid-June and v Warwickshire at Lord’s in late-July, as they represent our only opportunity to take points off those sides due us playing each side only once. If our performance, the weather or the pitch means we fail to beat Leics, then that could later prove costly. If we lose to the Bears, then that could be a decisive swing in Warks’ favour. The two other teams we only play once are Glamorgan and Durham, so our matches against those sides could also be crucial if they end up challenging for promotion or becoming a regular source of points for opponents.

Hopefully there will be few or no rounds of matches in which the weather or pitches prevent us from getting points, yet our rivals can get points in their matches.

We will have to see whether we play to our abilities, whether our players can stay fit and in-form, and whether we can cope with the inevitable England and Ireland calls-ups. Considering our squad seems to contain more than enough good players, we should be able to cope with any need to make changes, and we should be able to rotate in order to keep everyone fit.

I predict we will finish 1st, although we will have to see how the season ends up panning out.

Ha ha.

I see the Surrey (or is it Yorkshire?) supporter has voted.

At least if they want to vote for 10th place they'll have to out themselves by making a post on here saying they really mean tenth place!

Our pre-season optimism was reasonably high. We trust that the forthcoming break from championship cricket will rejuvenate the team ahead of our next game versus Warwickshire at Lord's (22nd to 25th July).

Those 13 votes for 1st are looking extremely optimistic now.....mid table obscurity more likely

Since this thread has been revived at least 3 posters have either changed their mind, or voted for the first time, as there were no votes for 7th or 9th a week ago.

Kind of defeats the object of everyone making a prediction before a ball is bowled and sticking with it.

We then look back at the end of September to see if the optimism was misplaced (and at half time it looks that way).
