Ryan Higgins 3 for Gloucestershire, batting at number 7.

I thought he moved because they promised him a place in the top five, or was it just the promise of a place in the team?

Chunkyinargyll is correct. Gus was unable to guarantee Higgins a top order place in each format. Alec Stewart took a similar stance at Surrey over Dom Sibley. It is important not to let 'player power' dominate team selection. We appoint individuals to run our teams.

Although a promising batsman, Higgins has also done himself no harm with his bowling performances. We wish him well as he fulfills his ambitions.

We wish these three popular cricketers every success moving forward.

Berg has exceeded medical expectations following his relocation to the Ageas Bowl.

Higgins has proved his versatility in the batting order but may have to wait longer to bat higher. His bowling has certainly shown some promise.

Podmore has an opportunity to command a regular place for Kent. Another bowler who is a useful lower-order batsman.

These three cricketers have benefitted from their new selection opportunities at their new clubs.

The modern player wants game time rather than sitting around like Winston Bogarde and picking up a cheque.

Both Kent and Gloucs operate on small budgets, so, game time for Harry and Ryan was the motivation.

So far, things have gone well with their new counties.

In the interests of fairness shouldn't we add Billy Godleman Neil Dexter Josh Davey and Joe Denly to the watch list?

and Adam Rossington if you like, Freddie.

The reason I included Berg is that I think he is the one big mistake Gus has made in the last 10 years, as the side has never been properly balanced since, so I always make a point of keeping track of the Iceman's performances.

You could almost put together a pretty strong team of former Middle players playing their trade with other counties, and speculate how many would get into our current team.

The Academy is producing a lot of good cricketers.

However, I suspect too many kneejerk reactions have caused some of the departures.

Berg hit 65 off 37 balls and took 3-51 to get Hants an improbable win in the RLC at Hove. In the previous Championship match at Taunton he registered a 5 wicket haul.

I imagine that Harry Podmore feels very satisfied that he moved to Kent, as his bowling and batting during the Royal London Cup knockout stages has helped them reach the final, while he has been an ever-present in their County Championship side. Despite only playing in one RLC group match, he took 4-57 in their play-off match away to Nottinghamshire and took 2-55 and hit the winning runs in scoring 6 not out in today’s semi-final away to Worcestershire. The fact Kent have reached the final makes it all the more satisfying that Middlesex beat them at Radlett. Podmore currently tops their batting averages in the Championship, as he has so far scored 126 runs and only been dismissed twice, giving him an average of 63. If Hampshire win their semi-final v Yorkshire tomorrow, then Podmore could face Gareth Berg in the final.

Ryan Higgins also had a good day, taking 4-50 for an ECB XI v India A at Headingley, although he finished on the losing side. Tom Barber took 1-51.

Harry Podmore is the latest player, good at white ball cricket, produced by our 2nd eleven and moved on for lack of opportunity.

The seconds have had a lot of success in this format over the past few seasons.

At forum's, head scratching takes place over our lack of success in 50/60 over cricket since 1988.

Looking at Rossington, Higgins and Podders to name but a few, you can see why.
