Another keeping Davies. Looking forward to the dystopian future when every county has one.

His great uncle was Glamorgan keeper Haydn Davies.

427 fc matches, and a batting average of 13.

Would never be tollerated today, but by all accounts a very fine keeper.

Day 2 rained off completely.

Given the amount of rain here since lunch (I'm about a mile and a quarter from the Walker Ground), and with more forcast overnight, I wouldn't be surprised to see tomorrow abandoned as well.

A great shame about the weather. It is great to know that Haydn Davies's great-nephew is making good progress.

I'm pleased that Haydn Davies great nephew is progressing.
Not in our side though.

Barber 0-56 with 7 wides. Before I checked the score card was concerned this was off one over. He is improving.

Today’s win seems to have helped Middlesex reach the semi-finals of the Second Eleven Trophy, as Worcestershire’s official website says that we will host Worcs in a semi-final on Friday 15th June.

Congratulations to George Scott for leading the 2nd XI to victory over the Sussex 2nd XI today. Excellent performances from Holden and Murtagh. It appears that both Barber and Scott conceded seven wides each.

Seaxe Man and I journeyed down to the Blackstone academy to see the Second XI make it six wins out of six in the 50 over Second Eleven Trophy and thus qualify for a home semi final at Radlett against Worcestershire on Friday 15 June.

The journey was not easy from North West London, involving tube to Victoria, train to Horsham, bus to Woodmancote and a fifteen minute stroll down a country lane.

We arrived to find us batting, under an overcast sky in cold conditions, having been inserted by Sussex.

We struggled early on, and were reduced to 4/2 and 52/4. A decent total looked highly unlikely but a superb knock of 134 from Max Holden elevated us to the heights of 282/8 after 50 overs.

Sussex started well but three wickets from Tim Murtagh arrested their progress. When Thilan Walallawita had the dangerous Rawlins caught on the boundary by Tom Barber at 130/5, we looked home and dry.

However, a 70 run partnership between Nightingale and Stiddard gave the home side hope, before Murts cleaned up with a further two wickets and we prevailed by 37 runs.

Just about recovered from sitting on that wooden bench all day Mike. The mobile bush next to the bench helped as a wind break.

Certainly a rural ride through the Sussex countryside on the 17 bus from Horsham. 12 miles.

Have a good trip to Glaws for our mathematical chance at Bristol.

Was'nt looking good when we arrived at Blackstone Academy, already one down in over 1, but the Mx boys staged a good recovery.

A double hundred for George Scott.

Martin Andersson currently 85 not out, with about 20 overs left today.

Scott is going well with 201* from 242 balls under Robson's captaincy. Andersson has fallen for 87.

After Middlesex 2nd XI declared on 438-8, Sussex 2nd XI closed day one on 13-1. Tom Barber has taken the wicket, and has conceded only 5 runs off his 3 overs without bowling any wides.

George Scott (55) and Robbie White (88) put on 144 off 30.1 overs for the first wicket in Middlesex 2nd XI’s second innings, and the team eventually declared on 197-7 to set Sussex 2nd XI 306 to win. However, despite Ethan Bamber taking four wickets, Sussex were able to win by three wickets.

Tom Barber gets Banton lbw. So it must have been hitting the wicket!
