Royal London Cup: Somerset versus Middlesex at Taunton 27.05.18

After a promising start to this year's completion, Middlesex are currently top of the South Division after four matches.

The team selection has been consistent with ten cricketers having played in all four matches to date.

To be honest would take a point for a No Result especially if Stirling is injured.
Cant remember the last time we won a limited overs match at Taunton and I also cant remember the last time Trego had a bad game against us.
I know he was at Middx. a few years ago and seem to remember he left to return to the west country - can anyone remember seeing him play for us?

We appeared to rescue his career. I distinctly recall his 6/59 as well as several useful innings.

Seemed to remember we wanted to keep him or does he fall into the Berg/Higgins category

To some extent Trego could be said to have used us.

The moment Somerset offered him the chance to return, he was off.

I think I saw his Middlesex debut in a high scoring 45 over match at Southgate in 2005. Five overs for 50 and bowled like it. I didn't particularly expect to see him again. let alone find him still playing (and sometimes batting No 3) thirteen years on. He did not bat but then only four wickets were lost (two to run outs). Our other bowlers were Richo, Betts, Styris and Weekes and "Middlesex till he Dai" Dalrymple. Definitely not a pudding pitch.

If he was only given a contract to the end of the season he was free to accept whatever was on offer, so why wouldn't he go back to the area he grew up in?

He was a more successful recruit from the Minor Counties than Mohammed Ali...

I received a handwritten letter from Peter Trego where he thanked Middlesex for putting his career back on track.

I was at the Seconds game at Ealing back in 2005 where he single handedly beat us in a truncated 50 over match: drawing the attention of our coach Jason Pooley and he consequently signed for the rest of the 2005 season.

Mrs Trego was a big influence on Trego returning home to Weston-Super-Mare. He admitted his move to Kent had not worked out.

So, a little wide of the mark there, chunky.

Also kept goal for Margate and later Weston-Super-Mare.

Also imho: during his pomp years a bit unlucky not to have received a List A England cap looking at some who did.

At the time of posting the weather forecast has improved.

May get a full game- or possibility of a late start if 20% chance of showers before 2 pm comes to pass.

Wouldn't have thought there'll be too much time lost today if any.
Forecast good. [www.bbc.co.uk]

LATEST FROM TAUNTON

There will be a delayed start at Taunton due to a damp outfield.

Warm ups are still on going and we're hopeful of positive news on a start time soon.

11.30 start.

We won toss, and bowl first.

49 overs a side- which is a bit daft.

When it's as close as that, why not stick to 50?

But rules is rules.

I was hoping to go but was put off by forecast which was false alarm. Interestingly Bristol abandoned for day. Guess it’s pot luck.

Hopefully we can push on after a promising start .
