England to Rest Test Trio

By Michael Norwood
December 11 2013

England will rest Kevin Pietersen, James Anderson and Graeme Swann for the ODI and T20 series that will follow the current Ashes test series down under......

In a move that Andy Flower describes as "neccasary to preserve the careers of England's test stars', it means that once again England will be without three of their main players in the short form of the game, just 12 months ahead of the World Cup in 2015.

It is also a sign that England simply play too much cricket, and players are suffering the risk of burnout from 12 months of playing the game.

It will also take some of England's players out of the firing line of the Australian's, who are simply all over them at the moment in the test series.

There will also be the argument for a different ODI captain, should Alastair Cook's form with the bat continue, given he needs time to sort his long form of the game out at the moment.

England ODI squad: Alastair Cook (captain), Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Michael Carberry, Steve Finn, Chris Jordan, Eoin Morgan, Boyd Rankin, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Tredwell.

England Twenty20 squad: Stuart Broad (captain), Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steve Finn, Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan, Boyd Rankin, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Tredwell, Luke Wright.
