Karunaratne 'All Clear'

Dimuth Karunaratne has thankfully been given the all clear, after being stretchered from the field, whilst batting for Sri Lanka, in their current Test Series out in Australia. He sustained a nasty blow to the back of the head, from a delivery from Pat Cummins, who alongside most of the fielding side, rushed to the batsman's side.

An update from Sri Lanka Cricket has since said "Dimuth has been discharged from Canberra hospital following assessment and all cleared. A further update will be provided on his playing status tommorrow prior to play."

Facing a bouncer in the 31st over of the Sri Lanka innnings, the opening batsmen turned, but the ball didn't rise as high as expected and struck Karunaratne on the top of the shoulder first, before hitting the back of his neck.

He collapsed immediately with both the Sri Lankan physio and the Australian team doctor racing onto the field.

The batsman did remain conscious throughout the incident prior to being stretchered off, with the delay to the game timed at 12 minutes.

Cummins, although distressed innitially, returned to finish his over, even bowling a further bouncer a short while later.

Despite the episode, the dominance of Australia continued in the match, as they declared their first innings on 534/5d. Sri Lanka are currently 123/3 but are also 1-0 down in the series.
