| Match Report | The surprise inclusion in the Lancashire line-up was Andrew Flintoff, who played just as a batsman in the absence of Iain Sutcliffe at the top of the order through injury. The visitors went into the game with just four front-line bowlers, hoping to get a further ten overs from Carl Hooper's off-spin and Mark Chilton's medium-pace. Having been put into bat, Lancashire managed to score 229-6, having been 203-4 at one point, before Flintoff was dismissed after another quick-fire innings of 31 from 29 balls. Mark Chilton offered support at the top of the order, finishing with 22 and putting on 69 for the second wicket with Stuart Law (59). Hooper was finnally dismissed, caught and bowled by Stephen Harmison for 61 from 72 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes. The home side were always in trouble after losing keeper Phillip Mustard to his first ball and with the news that overseas batsman Martin Love would be unable to bat in the innings. Only Mustard's opening partner Nicky Peng offered any resistance with 44, but in the end the home side were always going to fall well short. |
