Ice Man to Compo

MTWD a bleesed with a further detailed match report from Seaxe Man . This report is ABU free and describes our sucessful battle for bonus points

For the first time for 15 days there was no overnight or early morning rain and play commenced on time at 10.30 am.

Overnight Middlesex 162 for 7. So a tricky situation with only bonus points to add to the 5 for a drawn game.
The not out batsmen were Simmo and Rayner. With three wickets left the batting point looked a distant point.
Ollie edged a 4 which was welcome and he  managed to add a further 5 runs to that before being dismissed by Abbott for 9. So score 168 for 8. He was replaced by Tom Helm who managed a single before falling to Fidel Edwards for 1. Score 169 for 9 and not looking good.
In came the Watford Wall Steve Finn with 31 runs still required. Simmo realising last man standing went to work as he did in the previous game at the Hacienada and produced a couple of boundaries off Mason Crane who bowled two overs for 18. Finn managed one as well and suddenly 200 hoved into view.
This was passed before Simmo was bowled by Fidel Edwards for a life saving 36, Finn 9no and a total of 204. Fidel Edwards a fivfer. 26-5-79-5.
Hampshire innings. The remaining motivation was now to see whether the Middlesex bowlers could obtain the three bowling points.
Attacking fields could be maintained throughout as the Hampshire total was of no consequence so long as we took 9 wickets.
Contrary to popular opinion the pitch retained life for the pace bowlers and Captain Adams went early caught at the wicket off Helm. First blood 15 for 1,
Alsop and Ervine went rapidly at 46. Ervine in his last Hampshire season for a duck. Ollie had Alsop taken at the wicket, the wickets falling each side of lunch.
James Harris stepped in with the wickets of Organ and Holland showing a bit off pace. He later diverted the ball onto the stumps to run out Abbott.
Finn who earlier had Ervine taken at the wicket stepped in to remove Dickinson and Helm removed our old friend Berg for a dogged 22.
Finn who had told the balcony that the ball was nibbling a bit, returned to remove Edwards middle stump. Job done 146 all out and a precious three points garnered.
Suffice to say, the rain which dogged the match throughout, returned about 4pm to close the game and hands were shaken. Middlesex 14 for 1 in 9 overs.
The 9 points collected give us 123, level with Somerset and one behind Yorkshire.
Next weeks match versus Lancashire and the last at Somerset leave our fate in our own hands. Though I expect a lot of interest in the game South of The week.
Seaxe Man 15th September Uxbridge.
