Team work bails out Mumbai Indians
By Nima
March 14 2010
Mumbai Indians scraped through to register their first win after a one-man demolition named Yusuf Pathan of the Royals clubbed its bowlers all over the park, scoring 100 runs of just 37 balls, with nine 4s and eight 6s.

What would one do, when your batting opponent go something like this – 6,6,6,6,4,4,6,4,4,4 ? That’s 50 runs in just 10 balls.

Yusuf Pathan had the Mumbai Indians team scratching their heads, with Sachin’s game plan going completely awry. He had planned to bowl Malinga and Zaheer in the last four overs, but had to bring back for one over each to bowl to Pathan earlier.

However, lady luck shined on Sachin, and Pathan was outwitted by R. Sateesh into a runout.

The Mumbai Indians had a great start to their innings with Sachin and Sanath, looking steady, until the first wicket fell at 38, and soon Sachin and Tare, after some good hitting, were back in the pavilion.

Rayudu and Tiwari then played some good shots to post a good partnership of 110, which took the team past 200.

In reply, the Royals were in fact in shambles at the start, with three wickets down for 40 runs on board, when Pathan walked in and almost took the game away from the Mumbai teams single-handedly.

After Pathan was run-out, Paras Dogra brought down the required runs to just 19 of 12 balls, which was quite achievable in 20-20 cricket.

However, with Zaheer and Malinga bowling some really good stuff in the 19th and 20th over respectively, Royals fell short of the target by 3 runs.

Mumbai Indians next plays Delhi Daredevils on the 17th in Delhi. The match starts at 8pm local time.
