Wake up call for Mumbai
By Nima
March 21 2010
Two matches of winning run came to an end, as Mumbai tasted their first defeat at the home ground playing against Mallya’s Bangalore Royal Challengers.

A glum Nita Ambani’s face, the Mumbai team owner, at the final overs told the story for the day, as Mumbai Indians were comprehensively beaten by 7 wickets and 5 balls to spare.

An unbeaten 66 of 55 balls by the in-form South African Jacques Kallis stopped the Mumbai Indians on tracks to any recovery they were expecting after three quick wickets in the final overs.

Mumbai tried to take advantage of winning the toss and batting first, but all the planning couldn’t stand the brilliant display of bowling and fielding by the Bangalore boys.

They skittled out the Mumbai team for 151.

Mumbai team and its fans hopes were then set on their strike bowlers Malinga and Zaheer to take quick wickets. The opening partnership of Kallis and Manish Pandey, of 85-runs, however, took the game away.

The final overs gave a glimmer of a hope for the Mumbai team, who took two quick wickets. However, two huge sixes of Harbhajan by Virat Kohli, who was eventually run-out, finally took the game away.

The highlight of the match was the clinical batting display by veteran Jacques Kallis, and he was rightly adjudged as Man of the Match.

The Mumbai team would be again playing at their home turf against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday, March 22nd. Match starts at local time 8pm.
