The biggest loser were the Adani Enterprises and Videocon, while Sahara Group were bidding for three cities, but were told to settle for only one, Pune.
The Kerala-based consortium Rendezvous Sports being the second highest bidder, bagged the second team viz., Kochi.
As reported by Hindustan Times, IPL chairman Lalit Modi confirmed Minister of State for External Affairs Tharoor was the brain behind Rendezvous Sports World Ltd., that brought the IPL team for Kochi.
Speaking to media, Tharoor said, "IPL is an extremely valuable activity that is here to stay and grow. It will go a long way in terms of its popularity," he said. "It will capture the spirit of the enthusiasm of the young and give young Keralites a team to identify with."
The Pune city was bagged at the higest bid of $ 370 mn, while Kochi got settled with $ 333.33 million.
A smiling Mr. Lalit Modi, speaking to the post bidding news conference, said, "There is no recession in IPL, and its in the upswing".
The two new teams of Pune and Kochi will join the eight teams in the next season, that will see a total of 94 games to be played.
