Earlier, put to bat by Mumbai Indians, who won the toss, the Chennai Super Kings posted a good fighting total of 180 runs in the allotted overs, with a huge partnership coming from Suresh Raina and S. Badrinath of 142 runs.
The Chennai team started with a bang, with Hayden making full use of his mongoose bat, before he was adjudged lbw to Harbhajan. Parthiv Patel followed him soon to the dressing room, reducing Chennai to 38/2.
Suresh Raina then blasted a brilliant 83 runs, partnering Badrinath, who scored 55 to pose a difficult task for the chasing team.
The Mumbai Indians didn’t lose time with Shikar Dhawan making a quick fire 50 of just 32 balls. Sachin was seemingly struggling to get ball on the bat initially, but quickly found his rhythm.
With Shadab Jakati removing Shikar Dhawan, and Saurab Tiwary along with R. Satish following him, Sachin took over the role of seeing through the innings.
The million dollar purchase of the season for Mumbai Indians, Keiron Pollard, got to a quick 20, before perishing to Murali, who was bowling brilliantly. He did however play the shot of the innings – a simple flick to long-on, scoring a 6, off Murali.
Sachin then mistimed a slower ball of L. Balaji to give a simple catch to Dhoni in the 19th over.
The target was however quite gettable by now, with 9 runs needed in 10 balls, and Dwayne Bravo scored those in the same over, giving his team a 6 ball and 5 wickets win over the Chennai team.
Sachin was declared Man of the Match.
The Mumbai Indians next play the Deccan Chargers on 28th March.
