Day 3: A Fan's View Of The 1st Test at Chepauk
By SA March 28 2008
I really dunno how to describe this day perfectly. You just cant put it within few words because there is so much to talk about . But boy , all you people reading this instead of not actually being there in chepauk , I just feel really sorry for you because you were just not lucky enough to witness in person one of the greatest test knocks in our life time

This is up there with Laxman's 281 and few other cult knocks. My hands have turned red and can hardly hold a dosa now as it had been spending the whole day clapping for Sehwag's brilliance. How do you describe this talent ? Time and again , at least in Chepauk , I ve seen him be as good as Sachin . It was only when he goes outside India , he frustrates us lil bit because he has so much of talent going untapped !

Sehwag made batting look easy today. There was not an inch in the ground that he didn't cover with his strokes. The major improvement that I could notice in his game was his defensive strokes. His judgement is much better now and he looks far more quicker with his release. He has developed a very good offside game now as before he was only good in the square of the wicket. The wicket might have been a bit flat but boy , let me tell you ,

to score 300 against some fantastic pace bowling ( Steyn ! Superb ! ) and some atrociously negative disgusting spin bowling and in SCORCHING HEAT of more than 40 degree celsius , is one of the greatest feats by an Indian Batsman. Any other player , including the Maeostro HIMSELF IMO would have fallen to the negativity in the South African bowling attack as the batsman would have wanted to keep his team in a winning position. But Sehwag kept us afloat in a winning position and also kept his temparement intact against Paul Harris and his rubbish bowling ! Hats off Veeru !!

People should not underestimate this knock because this was a flat pitch or something. NO , it was not that bad a pitch. Steyn proved that you could damage the batsman in this pitch but if the batsman was playing like GOD , you can only sit back and let him get back his mortal status !

As for the other contributors , I would say Jaffer did pretty well considering his scoring rate and method of scoring ! Jaffer is the typical Old School opener. He is not going to be a hero for us but at the same time , he can be quite handy against certain teams in certain conditions ! He rotated the strike nicely and was playing for the team unlike a certain RAHUL DRAVID IMO ...

This was a highly painful and irritating knock by Dravid. No , don't gimme the bullsh*t of how he had to stay put at one end and rotate the strike and not lose wicket and all that cr@p you might here in NEO SPORTS . I saw it with my very own eyes and let me tell you that Rahul Dravid played like a man who wanted to get some match practise and secure his test career status rather than a man who wanted to put India in a winning position at the end of day 3.

In all of the 180 odd balls that Dravid faced , there were some pointless and painful defensive strokes that really irritated the crowd. We gave Dravid a standing ovation when he reached his 100 ( of course , 100 balls played we meant ! ) and the South African team appreicated our humour !

Dravid did not rotate the strike well ! He just stayed put at one end and wasted poor ball after poor ball. He could have so easily got a 100 today considering how bad they bowled to him and how defensive the field was when Dravid played . I ve lost a lot of respect for this man and so did everybody in Chepauk. On one end , here was this guy with the Midas touch and on the other end , Dravid should have played for the team and got us to 500 today very easily !

At one point of time , some people started getting very nervous when a negative bowler in Harris bowled a negative line to a negative batsman in Dravid !! It was so painful to watch and it really could cost us this game IMO as Sehwag was in such a mercurial touch today , anybody on the other end could have silently got themselves a 100 and the team close to 500 ( which gives us the onus for the next 2 days ! ) ..

Anyways , I won't let such small black spots affect what was one of the greatest cricketing days of my life . Virender Sehwag , Chennai takes it's hat off to you for providing us an unforgettable day... You have made 1 Billion people eat humble pie I hope

On anyday Dravid's knock like today, would have been an ideal Test Match innings, but with Sehwag like this today, Dravid always look selfish and defensive, but dont forget if he comes back to form that would only help India.

Anyway I am going to Chepauk tomorrow and day after tomorrow, that will be one hell of an experience.

Kudos to Sehwag for entertaining us.

If we were batting first , I would have accepted Dravid's knock to an extent sashes !

But batting second and when up against some pathetic bowling on one end and a guy going crazy on the other end , Dravid I think wanted to reaffirm his WALL status !

The irony is there in his name itself ... there is a reason why he is called RAHUL DRA(W)VID !!! grinning smiley grinning smiley

I still think if Dravid stays for a long time he will take his strike rate above 50 which is higher than his test match strike rate, having said that his batting is completely ruined due to poor decision by Indian team manangement sending him to open in OZ tour, his confident took a severe beating I feel.

Anyway I am going to Chepauk today to witness may be a world record, but I feel for players who are giving their heart out in these energy sapping conditions.

S.A is fine mate ... smiling smiley

and today we saw why I cursed Dravid from yesterday. That century meant nothing to me and to the team/result IMO ..
