Rain, Rain Stay Away... Little Veeru Wants To Play
By Gaurang May 23 2008
Come Saturday The Mumbai Indians take on The Delhi Daredevils in a needle match that is do or die for the Delhi side. If they lose this match, their chances of making the semifinals evaporate. The visiting Mumbai Indians are not in a sudden death situation, and even if they lose the game, they can still make the semifinals if they win their two remaining games.

The pressure is firmly on the Delhi side, and they will be anxious for the weather to cooperate and not wash out the match like it did their previous match against the luckless Kolkata Knight Riders, who saw their shot at a semifinals spot  washed away in a pre-monsoonal burst.

If the match is washed out and Delhi get only one point from a No-result, the Daredevils will end up with 14 points from their 14 matches and will then have to rely on both Mumbai and Chennai slipping up for them to have a shot at making the semifinals.  Their fate will be entirely out of their hands.   The rain helped the Daredevils last time, will it help them again, this time by staying away, so that they can go for two full points from a win?

As for the match-up between the teams there is much of a similarity between them.  Mumbai has a dynamic left right opening combo, though a bit more grizzled than the Delhi duo of Gambhir and Sehwag, in Jayasurya and Tendulkar.  In the middle Mumbai has several options including Robin Uthappa, Shaun Pollock and Abhishek Nayar though they will miss the consistency of Dwayne Bravo, with both bat and ball.  Delhi’s middle order will rely on Shikar Dhawan, Manoj Tiwary, and to a lesser extent Farvez Maharoof.

As for bowling, Mumbai will rely on a miserly veteran in Shaun Pollock, supported by locals Ashish Nehra, and Dhawal Kulkarni, again missing Bravo’s contributions.  The bowling for Delhi will be spearheaded by their own version of a miserly veteran in Glenn McGrath, supported by Yo Mahesh and Farvez Maharoof.

The teams have much in common, so a cracker of match is in store, if the rain stays away.

..in the do-or-die match against MI..

I feel that he will loose this, so MI and CSK will go thru to semis..

That will be fair as well, as MAHA Gambler & MAHA casual captains like Sehwag deserve to go out...

Who is my Boy btw??

Well Unlike u, I do not get blind in my love or hate for a player..and try to be rational in evaluating them..

Sehwag costed 2 matches to his team purely by his poor captaincy, and thats why he deserves to get out of this, the way he was kicked out of Test team..

Who knows, this way he may become a better captain for the future..

Delhi has been the #2 team...but for two games when raine played against them and a couple of bad gambles.

If Sehwag limits his gambling.....he is a cool captain.

today there was no gamble... batting line up was more predictable one and it paid off... the only gamble was giving greevs bowling...

Sehwag has slected the cream of Indian batting for his side.
Sehwag+Gambhir+Dhawan+Tiwary+Kaarthik...could be the top 5 of an Indian XI sometime.

Mahroof has been a gerat selection for him.

Greeves was a waste.....Asif must have been injured?.

I would have still played ABDV
