My First ICL Experience...
By Anu_D
October 17 2008
..was DARK literally there was "Ghanghor Andhera" in the stadium and on the screen....in the Ahemdabad v. Chennai game. We were told by Jones and Greig who were unsuccesfuly trying to sound comic amidst a catostrophic tragedy... that there was a power failure in the Maidaan....the bulbs on the make-shift poles on the edges of the ground...went bust and fused.

They didn't have spares.....no one thought such a catostrophe could happen....bulbs are not deemed sapre accessories in a cricket match...

There was no provision for petty cash.....
So some one called subhash-ji in Singapore to get an approval for buying some sylvania laxman long life low electricity consumption...500Watt bulbs.....another one went looking for a ladder and an electrician....

The comic duo of comnetators kept telling us for half an hour that light will be restored in 10 minutes....

Part two of the comic tragedy was the appearance of a horrible sounding skinny woman in an ill fitting top.......struggling for words in English, but gesticulating furiously with hands for the lack of articulation and ill attemtping some kind white man's spoken accent....sadly resulting in a pathetic hamming, hawing gibberish. When a desi man( or worse a woman) lacking articualtion, vocabulary and subject knowdledge attempts faking a white man's accent...it's a sorry neary puky sight ( and sound).

She called some fat rounded white men in front of the camera...who we were told were fitness coaches of Ahemdabad and Chennai and with loads of arm gesticualtion and grab-the-microphone-herself and overspill all with her own voice...sent them back without letting them speak more than half a sentence.....as she refused to stop throwing at us what she thought were jokes....in a langugae and accent that we didn't undertsand.

40 minutes later they declared lunch ( although it is dinner time)...cutting the match to 16 overs only....hoping that Chandra-ji's accountant would have loosened some petty cash and his peon would have found the bulbs, ladder, electrician etc......and they may be able to start after lunch...

Poori-Sabzi and Kheer was served on green-grass under the moonlit skies.....compelting a panoramic and filling dinner.

While Poories were being gobbled... they started showing highlights.....and we were informed that rejected from international cricket and failed even in First class and second class cricket....Sodhi was the player of the tournament so far....WOW!...our eyes popped out of our sockets......and it was reaffirmed in our minds that the diffrence between the two leagues is as much as in the standard of their respective top players....Sodhi vs. Watson.

It was noticeable that in the one hour period there was not even a SINGLE advertisment.....it is being reported that Zee is paying TEN Sports to carry these pictures. I wouldn't be surprised if Ten sports asks for extra-money......as the darkness compensation allowance.

Then as the darkness and gloom begin to sink our hearts they took us to the Zee studios somewhere where the only spark of lightness for the evening was a dazzling beautiful woman...a wannabe starlet called Aarti Chabbariya whose mere presence lightened the environ and the mood. There were 3 nonedesript guys called jhunjhun, rohan and wasan stting staring at her pretending to mumble jumble something about cricket....

ICL has truly lived up to my expectation...

Anu_D, tremendous satire...

I can only wish if this weren't so close to reality...

Your takes on Jonesy, Greig & Langer(Mayanti not Justin) are spot on....

That's well written. I think the topic of ICL is the only thing I agree with anu_d.

Looks like you were watching a different match. There were advertisements in between overs, and each team had a company sponsor...with name written on their shirts.

Funny piece though smiling smiley

Re: My First ICL experience.....
I have watched about 20 minutes of today's match between Dhaka Warriors and Hyderbad Heroes on Ten Sports...and even in that short duration, there were plenty of advertisements in between. They were sometimes cutting off the commentators mid-sentence to show the commercials. Companies like LG, Saint-Gobain, Hindustan Lever, Big Bazaar, and many more. So anu_D's comment about lack of adverts, etc couldn't be further from the truth. It's alright to not think highly of ICL, but making up stuff to try and demean them is uncalled for.
