India cancels tour to Pakistan
By ICF Staff
December 25 2008
In the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attacks on Mumbai, shown to have been perpetrated by Pakistani nationals one of whom is now in Indian custody, the Indian government has ordered BCCI to cancel its upcoming tour to Pakistan based on security risks to the Indian cricket team.

Pakistan has remained cricketless for over a year.

Like all other international teams  that have cancelled their visits there in recent times, India which originally planned to help PCB get back on its feet by sending its cricket team has now declined to do so after the terror attacks perpetrated on Mumbai on November 26.

If the Pakistani government cannot rein in its citizens from launching deadly attacks on Indian territory, or is unwilling to do so, there is little reason to believe that they would be able or motivated to provide sufficient levels of security to the Indian cricket team, who would undoubtedly be a target of the elements who rained grenades and bullets on an unsuspecting civilian population going about their everyday chores.

Sri Lanka offered to tour there in place of India, but Lankan cricket has just gone through an upheaval which saw their cricket chief Arjuna Ranatunga bundled out of office. The replacement government body has been more reluctant to send their team, and it remains doubtful that Pakistani cricket can emerge from its long famine.

In these times of a full cricketing calendar through the year, members of the Indian cricket team will be thankful for an unexpected but welcome break.

If I was the Indian PM, I would cut of all contact with Pakistan - even diplomatic ties.

No CBM's, no trade, no diplomatic ties, no movement of people, no sporting ties.

Its over.

Anything less than that shows that India has no SELF RESPECT.

Don't do everything at once...can do it step by step to rachet up the pressure..

At the least the IMF should cancel the bailout of Pakistani economy...

While I have some sympathy for the players... it really is high time that India stopped giving so much support to the country that is hell bent on bleeding it to death...

With reference to the OP, see the reaction -- of course posted boldly on cr@pinfo. Pay particular attention to how this guy who is a Saffi says: "let us down." I wonder if former ICC officials are allowed to take sides like this or should they be strait-jacketed like Gavaskar was.

"Look what India did to Pakistan. They just let us down."
Former ICC president Ehsan Mani warns the Pakistan board to look away from India for support among Test-playing countries

Isn't the hypocricy amazing? When the whites were dominant, the desis were castigated (for being poor, did not play well, no good arrangements for touring parties, etc.). Now that India has power it is being castigated for the same things the whites do routinely.

We need a media outlet of our own -- that represents our POV -- otherwise we will not be able to keep this power for long.

Yes the hypocrisy is amazing...

But we are to blame too...we give too much Bhav...to CI and BBC and not enough to Cricbuzz and The Hindu...

ICF is much better barometer of true Indian fan's viewpoint than Cr@pinfo...
