Sehwag Slaughters Kiwis
By ICF Staff
March 16 2009
Virender Sehwag, considered by some (including India Chairman of Selectors Srikkanth) to be the best batsman in the world today, has been brutal on the Kiwi attack in New Zealand, helping India crush their hosts in the ODI series.

The New Zealanders are in awe of Virender Sehwag.

The explosive opener has been so spectacularly destructive during the ODI series that even captain Dan Vettori admits that they have no answer for him.

"Surrender to Virender" would be an apt summary for the New Zealand ODI series. And they are not the first side to raise the white flag when he is in song.

Sehwag has flourished in all conditions, against every team (including Australia which took severe punishment from him in their own backyard), and against all varieties of bowling.

Although comparisons with his idol and mentor Sachin Tendulkar are unavoidable, he will modestly be the first to say that he does not merit comparison with the all-time great. Sachin for his part is happy to admit that there are times when he finds it best to turn the strike over to his younger opening partner in the ODIs and play a supportive role.

With the Tests looming, the Kiwis are once again faced with the prospect of Sehwag at number 1. Whether they can find a way to stop him may well dictate their fate in the long format too.

Re: Sehwag Slaughters Kiwis
He himself has said that he gives himself more freedom to leave balls in Tests...and this cuts down the errors he makes...resulting in a Test average north of 50...

There's a social marketing campaign here with the slogan "If you drink and drive, you're a bloody idiot".

In the crowd at Eden Park was an Indian fan with a sign in the same font "If you bowl to Sehwag, you're a bloody idiot"

In that case it's better to bowl beamers and take oneself out of contention
