The recent Test match between Australia and Pakistan, which unexpectedly became competitive when an over-confident and dense (Where have we seen that combo before? “Mission Accomplished” anyone? ) Australian captain decided to bat on a green wicket under thick cloud cover has got this Indian fan in a real dilemma.
As Day 2 dawned my complex wish was:
- Pakistan skittled out for less than 100...ok ok...lets say 250 for a lead of 130 odd
- Australia making 400 in 2nd innings ( sub wish - Ponting for another first ball duck bowled, sub sub wish - it should be off a BIG no ball that the umpire missed off the 7th ball of the over - Asoka Desilva allowed 7 balls TWICE in this innings)
- Pakistan getting bowled out for 210 after being 180 for one, Hauritz getting a 7 for ( sub wish – At least 3 umpiring howlers and 1 bump catch accounting for Yousuf, Misbah and both Akmals).
Damn! ...life is so complicated.
Also, can't stand to see Ponting score..yet I do want Australia to do well...and this is just for starters...Then things get even more complicated with Pakistani fans refusing to even consider that India could have WON 2 Series in Australia but for umpiring blunders...
So my further wish now is that Australia should win...however, Ponting shouldn't score...Pakistani bowling shouldn't do too well (one bowler shouldn't get Ponting out a lot...what will happen to Bhajji and Ishant?)...Umar Akmal should fail...There should be some umpiring howlers...need to see Pak fans realize what we went through....At the same time Australia shouldn't be a beneficiary a lot...they always seem to get the benefit of the doubt….can’t stand to see the ex-convicts win by umpiring favors...however to convince Pakistani fans....Aaaargh!!!.
Basically what I want is I want to:
see a bowler from Australia who we thrashed troubling Pakistan,
see a bowler from Pakistan who we thrashed troubling Australia,
see a batsman from Australia who we made a bunny troubling Pakistan,
see a batsman from Pakistan who we made a bunny troubling Australia
And the above 4 statements change depending on match situation based on original wish...
Life sure is complicated...Why do Pakistan play Australia ?...dammit!!!
As Day 3 dawns my fevered brain has gone into overdrive…
I am too depressed to see Pakistan winning...and I want to bang Ponting's head with Sehwag's bat...what did he think he had when he chose to bat on a green top? A team of 3 Dravids, 3 Tendulkars, 3 Kallis' and the new Bradman? ( didn’t he know that his line-up had 9 Inzis, himself and Johnson)? He single handedly handed the Test match to Pakistan...The Man of the Match should be Ponting...or rather we should create a new award called “Shame of match” and give it to him...and Yes, for a change, let him have more of these than Tendulkar...
And come on...Sami??? The same one who soils his pants on someone mentioning the name Sehwag near him...he takes out Australian top order?
This is nothing but an insult to Test victories by South Africa and India in Australia in recent years ( of course we played better Australian teams but still)... OK so now my hope is for good, bright sunshine on days 3 and 4..Australia batting well...Chalo Ponting ko ek 99 de dedete hain...woh bhi kya yaad rakhega...score 550 in second innings...give target of 300+ to our beloved padosis...5th day rain affected...seaming conditions and Bollinger and Johnson making their moms proud…
Or…
Farhat, Iqbal and Butt smashing run-a-ball centuries to humiliate the Aussies at home…ensuring they fall so many points down the ICC Test rankings that they don’t even think of No. 1 for a decade or so, or until the ICC change their ranking criteria, to invalidate all wins in the Indian subcontinent…
Dammit why can’t they BOTH LOSE..??!!

. So anyway law of averages suggests that they are bound to win a Test in this series. Not keen on seeing Australia win also. A 1-1 draw would be ideal from my point of view.| 5 Jan, 2010 12:19 | Report |
