Good to see BCCI investing in the future of Indian cricket, not just making oodles of money from it. Last year they sent 44 players to England, they also sent the A team to NZ ahead of the Australia tour, and now they are hosting the England A team, i.e. the England Lions. The importance given to domestic cricket by not picking players from teams in Ranji semi-finals... is also very heartening. The influence of Rahul Dravid can be sensed here. Indian cricket since he has taken charge of the India A and Under 19 teams seems to be brimming with talent. The talent, probably always existed, but now it has proper structure and guidance to flourish.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee picked the India A team for the five one-day games and two four-day games to be played against England Lions. The Committee also picked the BP XI squad for a two-day warm-up game set to be played from 3rd February against England Lions.
The one-day games will be played from 23rd January in Thiruvananthapuram. The 1st four-day game will be played in Wayanad from 7th February and the 2nd four-day game will be played in Mysore from 13th February.
India A squad for 1st, 2nd & 3rd one-day is as follows: Ajinkya Rahane (C), Anmolpreet Singh, Rituraj Gaekwad, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Ankit Bawne, Ishan Kishan (WK), Krunal Pandya, Axar Patel, Mayank Markande, Jayant Yadav, Siddarth Kaul, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini
India A squad for 4th & 5th one-day is as follows: Ankit Bawne (C), Rituraj Gaekwad, Anmolpreet Singh, Ricky Bhui, Siddhesh Lad, Himmat Singh, Rishabh Pant (WK), Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Avesh Khan, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur
Note: Ankit Bawne who features in the India A squad, has also been included in the BP XI squad that will play its 2nd One Day warm-up game on 20th January.
BP XI for two-day warm-up game: Ishan Kishan (C & WK), Akshath Reddy, Dhruv Shorey, Ricky Bhui, Siddhesh Lad, Rinku Singh, Priyam Garg, Saurabh Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Aniket Choudhary, Ankit Rajpoot, Rajesh Mohanty
Citing the importance of domestic cricket, the Senior Selection Committee has not included members from the teams that have qualified for the Ranji Trophy semi-finals.
