Living In Fantasyland - it's Fantasy Cricket time

Fantasyland
By Alan Rowley
April 29 2003
It's that time of year when all you Norman No-it-alls can pit your wits against your fellow players and workmates in the Daily Telegraph Fantasy Cricket competition. Entry forms are already landing on doormats throughout the country and with £10,000 up for grabs, it's time to select your best XIs.

This year, the newspaper are running two competitions - one for the County Championship and Test Match League, as usual, and one for the new One-Day League. The one day competition is based on player performances in the National League, Twenty/20 Cup, C&G Trophy and one-day internationals. The first prize for each competition is a cool ten grand.

Time is short

Applications must be received by Saturday May 17th to score points in the first round of matches played the following day, so time is short. Entry is only £5 which gives you a whole season's entertainment. You are also allowed 12 transfers throughout the season for each of your teams. So, if your skipper breaks a leg in the opening game, your team are still in with a chance of the first prize.

At our local club, the arguments over whose eleven will come out on top have already started. We enter a league in the Super League competition. To do this, all you have to do is recruit 12 teams to play in your Super League and away you go. There are additional prizes for the Super League and also weekly individual prizes to be won.

Discussion points

This really is a great competition which provokes much discussion in the pavillion after the game, so why not give it a try in 2003? For more details and the chance to enter online, go to:

Oh, by the way, if you organise a Super League, you will receive a free six months subscription to The Wisden Cricketer, a new cricket monthly being launched in the autumn.
